Territory Manager Interview

gotcha, well I'm currently in a b2b role which is micromanaged the fuck out of and need a change, anyone here been with the company for a substantial part of their career? Is it worth making a change to? Is turnover high?

On a side note....are there any pros to working for this company? Any good experiences? I have heard nothing but negative things thus far.

yeah...there are pros. You get a good paying job, with a company that has never laid off sales people (that may change but as of now its true). You get a great 401 K program, profit sharing, etc. Some people with 20 years here have close to $1MM in their 401K now, and that's with the tech bubble burst, Forest stock being slashed in half, and the market collaspe of 2008. Medical benefits are good...you also get Disability insurance. You will be expected to work, and yes, you may get a prick for a DM. But you may also get a good DM. If you come to a company for the DM or pod-mates, you are not smart...experience tells us they will change. But if you have the personal and professional maturity to work with people, to produce, to actually go out and see offices each day, and to stay on top of your admin, you will be fine. Some people like to complain a lot. They think Forest is the only company with young managers. Or that has expectations some sales people may not think are reasonable. They are the same people who jump companies every 3 or so years and then start bitching about their new boss after 6 months. so don't rely on this board for great advise, but if you are, i hope this post brings some degree of balance.
by the way....its a territory rep job. its not a manager spot

Thank You, I appreciate the help. I guess my main concern is that over time they will try to weed out the top reps, only to start fresh and hire new reps with lower base salaries.

Well, if them weeding out experienced reps is a concern, it is a just concern. They have been doing it for the last 2 or 3 years!!! But look at the bright side, you are 10 out of 10 if you get hired, you will see the hatchet fall on 9 others before you. I would start looking for other employment when you are about the 3rd or 4th in seniority under your manager.

Listen, the 401K is good, just about like other companies out there, not much different. I have checked. The profit sharing is a great perk. Probably the shining star about working for Forest. The poster before stated guys have a million in the bank that have been here for years. He is correct, but that was mainly made off of stock options. Back when this company had Celexa, the stock jumped up, when it launch Lexapro it shot up, split, shot up again, and split, etc. Those having stock options made a fortune. Now, I just had a round of options expire on me. They were awarded to me at a cost higher than the stock has been seen at in years. They also use to give out a lot more options than what they have given out in previous years from what I have heard.

Put it this way... "My last options, like the ones before, expired. They were awarded at a higher price than they are currently worth. So, to put it in a nutshell... Toilet paper cost me $8 per pack at the grocery store. (I like the good stuff) So, it cost me $8 to wipe my arse!!!! My options were so worthless over the last 4 or 5 years it would have cost me money just to get the stock here to wipe my arse with!!!" Toilet Paper has been better to me than Forest Stock has. And I will tell you my friend, those days of Forest Stock shooting up and spliting are over.

Want to know who is making all the money here at the company. Check out the Link below. Might have to copy and paste!!!

search listing number: 732471

Thats the Southeast Area Business Director's House for sale. He isn't hurting for money!!!! We should make him come up with a Business Plan on how to increase this companies Stock value. And I dont want to hear that Lexapro going generic as an excuse. "Generic has nothing to do with it, if you are a good rep, you could increase Market Share" - Matt Reed. "Other territories are doing it, why cant you?" - Matt Reed. "Look, I dont care what you have to do, just get it done!" - Matt Reed.

Forest and their Managers, Full of great ideas, but no solutions!!!!!

poster #7 here
i have a few comments for poster #9

the money in 401Ks I referenced did not come from stock options. Incentive Stock Options (ISO's) is what the "old timers" made the big money on....that's true. And while it is true the 401K program participants did used to get shares in their 401Ks, that stopped in 1991. So 95%+ of what the average 20 year vet of this company has in their 401K came from contributions, company match, profit sharing, and the appreciation of those investments. Reps could have earned just as much as RD's in their 401K's.

Now, regarding you posting a link to the MSL of the ABD's house....man, that has absolutely nothing to do with this guy's question. It comes across as you being insanely jealous of the ABD's success. What do you care what he made in ISO's 10-20 years ago? What does that have to do with what it is like to work here? And why would the fact that he was smart enough to cash out and retain the wealth generated from those ISO's be considered a negative? What a low class move on your part....

So, your point on the 401K wealth no longer being viable due to the lack of the stock's performance was wrong, and your comment on the ABD's house was tasteless and irrelevant. I think I got dumber reading your post....guys like you let your rage hinder your ability to think.

With a reply back to your comments.

As for 401K, I will give you that, apparently you have been here awhile and I do not go back that far. But I still stand behind the days of the stock shooting up and splitting are over. And My stock options are worthless.

As for my tasteless behavior. I have seen several good reps ran off in my area over the last few years. And I have been here for awhile myself and I just wonder when my time will come. I have had good numbers, in the last year or so, but lately they are down. So, does that mean I am a terrible rep? Nope, simply means my goals were set so high from doing so well, now they are unattainable. Now, back to the tasteless act... Running reps off is a tasteless act, so I could really care less about what you think in regards to that. Are you in Area 3? If so, this kind of practice of running experienced reps off has become the norm. These are good reps with families. So running them off to save some salary numbers is absolutely tasteless. I do not think this is a DM Decision, nor do I think it is a RD decision. I think this is coming from the higher ups. ABDs and above. Read the board, this is happening everywhere!!!! One city, one state, maybe a localized event, but all over the country???

Managers like you that troll these boards trying to make the company look like something it isn't is a travesty. Your original post was right out of the Forest Manager's Handbook. Seriously, read what you wrote again, not one bad thing and using words straight out of the manager's evaluation checklist???? What, this company is all white fluffy clouds and Happiness??? You should know Reps talk, not just to counterparts, but to old training buddies, on message boards, etc. We know what is going on!!! As much as you try to clear the water, the turd keeps floating to the top!!!

lets look at my tasteless behavior. $4,000,000. How much do you think Forest saves off of running off an experienced rep? maybe on average 25k annually per rep??? Lets do the math. That's 160 reps!!!! That means that house alone would have paid the difference between each rep, 160 of them, to keep their job for one more year. 160 wives, husbands, moms, and dads, ran off. Most still trying to look for jobs in this crappy economy.

Now, I am not sure if the numbers are more or less than 160. Heck, I don't know how he paid for his house. He might of inherited the money to buy that thing for all i care. Either way, someone is running this Joke of an initiative. And he is not innocent, neither are you Mr Manager!!!! :)

I'm not a manager. I'm not a RD. I'm not Corporate. I'm a rep. But I have a lot of experience, both inside and outside of Forest. And again, your reply shows either you don't or you care more about your rant than the facts. You assume I am a manager, complete with insults, without ever asking. You state you don't know how the ABD got his money, but you use his financial success as a means to bash him for things you assume he is doing (weeding out reps for reasons other than performance). I don't know if he is or not, but I know he is smart enough to NOT single out people over 40. Any employment lawyer would have a field day by showing a trend that singles out legally protected "older workers."

You also show you have absolutely no understanding of how ISO's work. Even if the $4MM house was paid for with ISO profits, its not like those profits came at the expense of operating budgets...budgets that pay salaries. Matter of fact, the way ISO's are accounted for is different today than it was back then. You really need to do some homework before implying someone's ISO profits from 10 years ago could have kept 160 people employed today. It's really an absurd statement. But hey, you are on a roll...why let the facts get in the way, right?

So again, like your first post, you argue a point without the benefit of fact. Your assumptions are made out of your paranoid attitude and your easily identifiable anger. You ignored the OP's orginal question and request for information. You are a hater. You are upset someone actually wants to work here and realizes that as jobs go, there are many worse options. I will never understand how someone being content with their job can be so annoying to people like you. It's really amazing. I wish you well...

Tunrover is one of the highest in the industry, 30%- 40%; not only will they micromanage the f--k out of you, they don't have a clue how to do your job well.

run 4 the hills, dm's here are really bad-like eating in front of a dog

Mr. Manager,

Let me say this one more time. I dont care how he pays for what! How he made his money, etc!!! He could have followed a rainbow and found and leprechaun at the end that reach in his arse and pulled out a pot of gold for him. It doesnt matter. I am making the point about how he is running off seasoned reps to pay new ones less money!!! He is running off people that need to provide for their families. I was simply pointing out, he doesnt understand what that means. From the looks of it, he could miss a paycheck or two and be fine. If you do not think he is weeding out experienced reps, you are living in a fantasyland.

As for the really old reps, the ones that have been here 20+ years, they are pretty safe. For the exact reason you said, that would be a huge lawsuit.

I suggest you go back to managing your reps and if you do it well, maybe you wont be demoted and working with them in a year or so. You have the Company Speech down pat!!!

I dont think their is a soul on this board that doesnt think you are a manager of some sort!!!!

I believe he made his money by designing a program that tracks the IP Address for people that post anonymous messages on Internet sites. As for the people that you claim have been "run off" perhaps they were some of the ones that were caught by this revolutionary technology. It's unfortunate that your sorry ass has already been run off or perhaps you could have been next.

I have dodged the hatchet man thus far!!! But I am not stupid to think I could dodge it forever. I have been looking for employment for the last few months. The only problem is, nobody wants Pharm reps because they think we do not sell anything. See, I would love to leave, but I dont have anywhere to go. Thanks Parma!!!

Oh, here is my IP. 135.55.35.110

All you had to do was ask!!!!

Yes, but that was the IP yesterday when I checked. But let the manager keep adding his thoughts on here. I actually know I am getting under one managers skin, he has dropped a few hints who he thinks I am. LOL turth must hurt!!!

As for my manager friend on here, why doesnt he post his name? he has been positive about everything, why hide your identity? I mean, i know why I dont post my name, I would have my LOC and warning letter all in the same day. Until I find a job, I will continue to do my job and smile like I am the typical Forest Rep!!! Which brings up another good point! Why is it so damn hard to get a job outside of Pharma with all this dang experience? Once again, the industry is killing me. I want to leave, but cant!!!! But I know it is a lot easier to find a job, if you have one. I will do all of this extra BS planning we are having to do, I will keep getting my signatures, etc.

But the turth is already out about this company and how it treats its people!!!

Dont you get it dolt, you keep the smiling and ass tickling and pretending that everything is up to par and you love your job with your fake smiles and phony persona and nothing will change, how about stepping out of your faking and show how you really feel to your Dm's face and stop nodding and bobbling your thoughtless mindless head as if you agree with being treated like a four yr old and pissed on everyday by your militant order barking DM. How about showing them that they are incompetent and wrong instead of playing coy to the game and being the bigger violator of the immaturity by doing nothing about it. Be a man and stop the hiding, confront your obstacle for once in your life. Talk about hypocrisy. You are the ultimate example!!! Nothing worse than a loud mouth on a chat board who is the same little pussy who sits in poa and has nothing to say.....
