tenured or senior reps at gsk please help

Same old posts. Whining, and complaining. If you are a professional and extremely competent then ride alongs should not matter. When I was I rep I looked forward to my ride as a means to show off what I could do! It didn’t take long for me to rise through the ranks because my colleagues were lazy and whinnying. Maybe you should ask yourself what you want to be? A representative for the rest of your life calling on doctors and subject to layoffs. Grow up and learn to be better than what you are!
Not sure you have been around recently enough. Ride alongs every 4 weeks to same small group of customers who allow it. Think about it. Some parts of the country are very painful for this model, others less so.

In field sales our job is one that lacks security such as a government jobs.
Given the lack of security we are compensated pretty well. Now days most reps will have to endure a few companies during our careers. Some reps can get thru the layoffs and leadership changes however it's best in those circumstances in most cases to take your skills else where into a better situation.
I've know many of reps that hang on and do stay in one place a long time especially as business sucks for long stretches and are very unhappy and on SSRI's for the most part.

Please, please, please: learn to spell your words.

I always do better when I have a good agenda planned along with my message. The more I prep the day before, the better I feel during the ride along.

Sometimes you can prep for the ride along all you want and if the manager has it out for you- you can do no good. I just need to find a reason to start a case. HR at gsk will coach me to weed someone out even if they are a good rep. It's the gsk way. Advise potential new hires to stay away.

PLease help... if you are a tenured rep... advice please
does anyone get more nervous as time goes on about ride alongs, I have been out of pharma for at least 5 years and im about to return to big pharma where there wont be as much sampling but there will be ride alongs and for some reason i feel nervous about that. like what the day will be like or what i will say ... just overall feel like thats the worse part of the job and i hear this manager rides alot with his reps.
any advice on to shaking that off would be great.. currently with company no ride alongs at all and doing well.. but im a little not to excited about the ride along part but i know its part of the job. but i feel like its the worst part where i have quit before... any help would be appreciated to get over this...

Easy!
1. Go to four customers 1 to 2 weeks before ride along.
2. Ask customer if you can bring in manager on specific date.
3. If they agree, tell them you'll only need 4 or 5 minutes of their time. Give them a general idea of the discussion.
4. On the day of the ride along, print out a set of numbers that make you look good and give to manager.
5. Just before going into office, tell your manager to beware. This customer is really tough, but you've been slowly winning him over.
6. Respect the agreement with customer and talk for no more than 5 minutes.
7. Go back the following day (alone). Thank the customer for his help and leave a minor treat for the practice staff.
8. If you get a bad review, understand it had nothing to do with you or the field ride. Your manager is under pressure and has to show he's tough.
9. I typically don't read my reviews in full. They mean little to nothing.
10. Good luck!

How many days do the managers ride?
All of them
