Tell me about the Alkermes car allowance.

I understand that it fluctuates based on a number of variables.
What are these variables?
What’s the absolute minimum allowance you could receive?
Is there a maximum?
Is there any guidance as to what type of car you drive?
Does it have to be a certain style (i.e. 4 door sedan) or a certain year or newer? Any other considerations regarding the car allowance?
For those of you who have had a company car in the past and now have the allowance which do you prefer and why?

Thanks!

I currently take public transportation and working a part time fast food job to save up for a used vehicle.
Would I get a company car and what the allowance and models offered?

There sure are a lot of jerks here. Someone asked a serious question and you tools have to trash him/her

I see the car allowance this way. If your territory is from here to BFE you do not fair as well as if you have a smaller and city territory. I have always liked a company car better then an allowance, just because it is not my worry. When something go wrong it is covered for zero dollars. When it is your own auto, there maybe deductibles or other out of pocket coast. On the other hand you can pocket some cash if your car has not issues. Good luck

Thanks for the serious and well thought out reply. Could you put a dollar amount on this? So what’s the low end of an allowance and what are the variables? I assume mileage, maintenance, etc.?

You’re missing the forest for the trees.

Focus on this: as part of your employment, you get a free car.

If the details of the free car are very important to you, then you are not a cultural fit for Alkermes and would be happier somewhere else.

Good luck

Or I’m weighing 2 similar opportunities and am trying to delineate between the minor differences to determine which is the best fit for me. Is there some secret as to why nobody can describe the dollar amount associated with this benefit? Instead of telling me about culture (in which I am interested and will investigate), perhaps you could provide an answer to the question asked as opposed to one not asked. I’ll come back to you when I want to discuss culture. Thanks!

If your decision comes down to minor differences between how the free car program is designed, then your decision is already made: take the other job, you're not a fit for Alkermes.

That’s one of many variables. Maybe you’ve never had options so you’ve never had to weigh the merits of multiple excellent choices. If your behavior in avoiding answering a simple question about a minor benefit of your employment is indicative of Alkermes culture then that’s disappointing. I had been led to believe differently. You do your organization no favors by acting in such a manner. I hope most at Alkermes are more like the people I’ve met so far. People and assumed culture were what drew me there.

I agree. If your biggest concern is the car program and how much you may or may not get, this place is not for you. The program is a really good car program. Cultural fit is the biggest concern for us and helping the patient. That is obviously secondary to you. Please move on and take the other possibility. You are not a fit for us.

Point blank you are an idiot who is focused on the wrong thing and obsessed with the car allowance . The recruiter should be answering these things for you. If making less on your car allowance will sway you then we don’t want you.

Why don’t you grow a pair and make a decision! We don’t need pansies who need others on an anonymous chat board to help them with employment options. You’re likely a troll anyway.

I am new to this thread, and I can tell you that car packages mean everything in large territories. I have worked with my own car and company cars and there is a huge difference. If a territory is small, you can actually make money on an allowance. If your territory is huge, you burn up the car before it is paid for. It is terrible to work a multi state territory with your own car. I live in a rural area and could not accept a job with my own car no matter how much I loved the company. I come to Cafepharma to save myself from going through interview processes to find out that there is a deal breaker at the end of it. I am truly happy for those of you that love this company. Good luck to all.

Give the original poster a break. So Alkermes uses an app called Motus. It calculates your car allowance/mileage and it takes a few weeks after hire for that to be determined. I live in a large city and have a typical company type car (Ford Taurus 2012) and my allowance is $520 month. Mileage varies depending on where you live. Mine is 3.24 cents a mile. You turn the app on daily and it tracks where you go and calculates your mileage for each day. Big brother.
