In anatomic pathology reimbursement, 70% is technical, 30% is professional. Virtually all POLs negotiate with patholgists for a flat fee per case, usually 10% of the total (TC+PC). For a coorperation like Caris, earning that 10 cents on the dollar has to pay pathologists, sales people, management, couriers, and other overhead (such as free EMRs and assorted kickbacks). POLs enrich the private practice clinicians who run them. The POL anatomic path market is beggars chasing for pennies. It's a race to the bottom and a losers game. Good luck with the new POL strategy. The margins are way too small and the business will fail. Caris will dominate!
