Sometimes you just need a pep talk when the going gets tough

The way I see it we are like a former heavyweight champion who was knocked down but on our feet again. Yes we have gotten a little old and heavy but I think Wall Street is starting to see we are stronger than ever with leaner sales force and HQ, better pipeline, and new leaders with a better strategy.

What say you?

Respectfully submitted, I think you have rose-colored glasses on. The bleeding hasn't stopped yet with announcement after announcement of closures and/or layoffs.

As for the pipeline, there is nothing that goes before the FDA through Oct. 2014. Sorry, but that is grim.

I agree! We have a lot of babies bitchin, moaning, crying and complaining on CP!

MRK will thrive and survive. The dedicated hardworking amongst us will stay, the laziest amongst us will be managed out.

"...on our feet again..." ---Are you f--king kidding me? We have a few products, all of which are losing market share and have falling revenues, despite Merck's desperate price hikes. Our pipeline is atrocious and likely to yield nothing (kind of like practically worthless antifungals that will deliver about one-tenth what we lost when Singulair went generic). Our employee base has been gutted. Our leaders are criminals.

You truly are the dumbest sons of bitches on the planet.

4000 people get laid off in a span of 48 hours--right before Thanksgiving--and you're giving a pep talk? No offense, but I think your sentiments would be better placed to those who just got or about to be let go, don't you? I mean you can give a pep talk, but it is rubbing salt in the wound to rahh rahh Merck. They wrecked a lot of people's lives. Thank goodness we will be better off in the long run.

Merck laid off people roughshod...many, many, many of their best performers (which ties into great performance reviews) we cut based on a number--not on what he/she contributed to the company. When they treat their employees as pawns on a chess board, I saw screw 'em.

If there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that Merck doesn't give a shit about any of us. They've laid off tens of thousands and pushed out thousands more, basing those targets on their ability to sue, their salary and their pension status.

We don't need a pep talk. We need a decent employer.

FU Merck bastards.

You should read your emails. We do have a real strategy now with our four pillars

Oncology
Port 1 Acute Care Hospital
Vaccines
Diabetes (Primary Care)

Since you don't read much believe me we are going to regain the most respected status within 2 years!

Totally agree with this post! This is what happened to countless colleagues and friends...and it STILL happening! I could see if the carnage is over and you expressed your sadness overt he ruthless business's actions, but that is not the case.

They were in violation of the WARN act with numerous people. How would you like to have the one handed the blue folder, as your boss looks on in disbelief and grief. And then you defend these actions? They violated Dept of Labor Law!

No thank you. Maybe after the dust settle, healing can begin. But it is not going to begin before the dust settles...and with MMD US having hand raiser letter out there, the dust has far from settled.

I just witnessed some of our best people get let go because they were the wrong demographic and saw some real duds keep their jobs because they were the right demographic.

This company isn't serious about talent retention. The best people have left or are being let go, with only a few good ones left. It won't be long before they leave too. This company is screwed.

Demographics?
What kind?
