So who is packin?

Pretty funny, I'll have to admit. That was a reference to the fact the majority of close range professional hits are carried out with .22 hollow points fired close range with a silencer. The gun has little or no kick, the bullet explodes on impact, the silencers work very well. One or two shots to the head does the trick. I would never try it for self defense.

The fact is, we had about 6 guns when our first child came along. I sold them immediately after a tragic accident involving a family member, a child that was visiting and found a gun hidden under a mattress. I'm in the same spot Libs is in actually and I think this just got me motivated to restock. I'll start with a shotgun w/ an 18" barrell and look over the suggestions on handguns. I'll probably go somewhere between 38 police special and a .45.

I like the idea of 1 shotgun and one handgun.

Yes it is true that a .22 is a perfect option for hits. It enters and doesn't leave, but can cause a lot of damage.

When there is an issue with an intruder however, you probably aren't that good that you can get off a head shot. I don't think people realize how hard a head shot is for anyone.

That is why for home protection a shotgun is my choice, I am partial to Mossberg.

And P. Ho, I ain't worried about the ATF, they can have all of my "registered" guns ;)
