slowness of medimmune HR

Why does HR at MedImmune suck so badly? There are tons of posts on the website that are like 6 months old or older. In this climate, how can they not get qualified candidates? The answer is becuase they suck.

I have heard from about a dozen people that work there that Medimmune is awesome and a wonderful place to work for. However, I've also heard its easier to get out of prision than through the application process there.
The application is 5 pages long for every job! Why can't my information be saved and stored, then resused?
Why when I call does no one have any information about the jobs that I have applied to?

Does medimmune routinely post "jobs" on the website that are really just fishing expeditions to see what kind of candidates are out there...in a cruel experiment for market research that builds up people's hopes and simultaneously crushes their dreams?
Does the company treat current employees as terribly as it treats candidates and potential hires?
Does anyone know how many people turn the company down after interviewing?
Does anyone know how many people turn the company down before interviewing because it has simply taken them too long?

How long did it take you from applying to interviewing?

I agree, they are slow. Not much can be done. I applied there awhile back, but took a job elsewhere, so i cant help you. Prob isnt different from any other place out there. Its an insiders game anyway. Its all about who you know, not what you know. plus the job market sucks for people in pharm now, so its really flooded with people trying to get something, anything.
Besides, complaining on this board isnt going to change how quickly they get out of their chairs and make a move to hire you. Ive heard that HR there has poor strucutre and relies heavily on contractors to do most of the work anyway--youve got some who doesnt know what the job requires looking over the applications.
maybe you can find someone on here to contact directly about a position

It's really frustrating when they don't even have the decency to follow up with a candidate. Had a phone interview, never heard anything, not even the typical thanks but no thanks e-mail. To my knowledge most of these positions that are open have been open for quite awhile now - what gives here?

might be slow for you guys, but I know they are there working on the weekends. I just got the thanks but no thanks email at 9:45 on a saturday night!! aargh! what's up with that? Like someone was really looking stuff over at 9:45 at night? If so, I really don't want that person looking over my materials.
You could look at it and say I'm not a good fit for the job or the company or whatever, but based on this, I'm thinking they aren't a good fit for me. :(

I currently work for them and they sent me a letter stating, "Thank you for your interest in MedImmune, but we have decided to go with another candidate." Feels pretty bad when they don't even realize you ALREADY work for them!

Who is there to FIRE HR?

it's not medimmune HR. It's a company alled The Right Thing. It's all automated, but ull find an 888# on one of the screens. Try it again, start up a dummy application for some other position, then bag out of it. If 888# doesn't show there, then peraps just complete the application and upload. The 888 # should show up. Or. Just go to te rright thing company website.

I'm having trouble following. What does this 888# mean? Is this a phone number? A clue to a dummy post with no real job behind it, but just a way to figure out who is applying based on what the language in the post is?
What does the Right Thing website give that Medimmune's own website doesn't. Please advise.

OP here.
I'm saddened to hear that it isn't just me, but then again, it is comforting to know that it wasn't something unique to my situation.
Seems like HR there needs a major renovation. There are good people on the job market, it would be a shame for them to go somewhere like Emergent, who just landed that huge contract with the government (now that they are able to write contracts again).

These 'right thing' tools are worthless, so much so that if I find out a co. is using them I won't even apply. None of them actually know the job or the roles they are hiring for, just run down a list of questions - while you respond you hear them feverishly typing in the background. What ever happened to a hiring manager screening resumes and deciding who to meet?

All the above points might be true, but how can I circumvent this company, the Right Thing, and break into Medi without them? Aren't they holding all the keys?
I realize that they probably are not scientists and don't know how to read the scientific potential in one candidate vs another, or how to compare a scientist's CV to the job posting. Regardless, one has to go through them to get to the actual hiring manager, someone with a degree in Biology or Chemistry. The big question is, when they are being exceedingly slow--like 5 or 6 months to fill a position--how can one get around them? It is impossible, from what I have been able to research, who the actual hiring manager is, or how to move the application process along. I've called numerous times, and all they will say is that things are "in process" or "moving along", but they can't give a timeline for making decisions, and won't describe their process. I wish that getting 5 or 6 phone calls from candidates asking about the status of a job posting that is 6 months old would jumpstart them to go to the hiring manager that has contracted them and get more directions. Also, isn't there someone at HR inside Medi that put together the posting, authorized the need for this position, the salary, the requirements? Shouldn't that person be asking The Right Thing for the pool of qualified applicants every couple weeks and going over it? Shouldn't they have deadlines too? Does anyone hold them accountable? Like the division/person who came up with the position in the first place? It seems odd that someone says, "I need a XYZ person", goes to the effort to create a job posting specific to that person/job, gets it on the web, etc, and then NEVER follows through with it. Did the position go away? If so, delete the posting from the website, and be courteous enough to follow up with an email to the candidates explaining what went on. Emails are free. Free from quilt, free from real interaction, and easy to do. Come on, HR! Step up.

It is going to be difficult to attact talent when you take 6 months to fill a job posting. Most people aren't going to be available for 6 months...they will take other job offers somewhere first.
Why post something on your web site if you aren't going to fill it? Its just a waste of everyone's time.

Anyone know of a what to get in touch, like email or phone numbers with medi hiring managers?
They aren't listed on the medimmune web pages (not that I can find). When I've called HR, they will say they don't even know the name of the hiring manager for that job (I guess so they can't disclose this information). However, everyone suggests contacting the hiring manager directly. I've tried looking all over the internet, linkedin, indeed, glassdoor, etc, but can't find who the hiring managers are. Is there any way to speed this process up? HR is apparently powerless to contact the hiring manager and say that the process is dragging on and would like an update so they could be responsive to the applicants who have passed the phone interview. An email outlining the process and an estimate of the dates for interviews and decisions should be a common courtesy and a little good will measure by the company to the people they are trying to attract.

I got the 800 number, but they don't have any information. That is "up to the hiring manager. The position is still open, and they are looking into your background. Any decision is a the discretion of the hiring manager..." Its been 6 months, and I call every 3 weeks, so I've heard this story 8 times. I've asked as many questions as I can, and every answer I get is that the people on the other end of the phone know nothing. They are quick to get off the phone.
The emails are auto-generated, and if you reply to them, it will just bounce back to you. There is no number anywhere on Medimmune's website that can be found to contact anyone at HR.
Like I said before, they aren't going to be able to recruit quality people if this is the first impression they give.

The recruitment process is actually pretty well-rated as per glassdoor.com:

http://www.glassdoor.com/Interview/MedImmune-Interview-Questions-E77.htm

I've applied to some R&D positions and I am a bit worried as to whether or not the system acquired my CV. I've had problems with the upload on other companies' websites because it seems sometimes the scripts don't like underscores in file names, sometimes they don't like spaces and/or because I use a Mac. Moreover, the company MedImmune uses for their online applications doesn't (appear) to have any way to validate that your resume/CV has been uploaded. Has anyone else had issues along these lines?

I applied for an open position on Friday, May 20th. Got an email on Monday, the 23rd to set up a time for the phone screen. Had my phone screen today. So that part all went really fast. She told me I should hear about a f2f within a week or 2- so we will see.....

Congrats to you so far. However, I would suggest you get prepared to wait. For months, and months.
Look on their website and see how many positions have been posted online for >6 months. They are in no hurry to hire. If not, they should have the decency to remove these postings from the web and repost them when they are ready, or have the decency to email the people in their select pool that have passed the initial screening procedures and explain that it is going to take them 9 months to set up the face to face interviews.

Coming from the inside the process is a joke. The right thing provides such poor candidates and frequently turns down (through an automated system) those who would be perfect, at least one or two had the gumption to personally find the hiring manager and ask why they had been rejected.

In any case I'd not recommend coming here right now. Management does not embrace change and are defending poor practices and sweeping them into the closet without fixing issues as they don't want to look bad to their parent AZ
