Sickness spreads through organization

VBU Super spreader sales meeting. Around 100 VBU employees got sick at this week’s Orlando meeting? What you say?

1). 800 of your closest friends without masks in close proximity indoors.
2) communal food sources.
3) lonely reps blowing off steam in first live meeting in two years at all hotel bars where it was so loud you had to get very close to hear your friends.
4) Covid tests sent to reps and no reporting of results. Really????? You know people admitted they didn’t take it? No honor system here! Then sending sick persons home by dispersing sick people on planes and spread it all over the country? Amazing!

For a healthcare company claiming to really care about people this was sloppy. Did they show us a good time? Yes, but at what costs? We are all viewed as expendable. Maybe the responsible thing would have been social distancing, every event outdoors? Proof c-19 negative necessary before you get on plane to attend?

You sound like a *really* fun person! I will bet that your New Years Eve parties are to DIE for!!

I heard it was more like several hundred in the VBU who got sick! That information came from a medical individual at the hotel who was delivering COVID tests to the rooms of those who were ill. It only took two hours for them to bring a COVID test and medication to my room! Really?? No sense of urgency when it comes to the health & well being of GSK employees!

Additionally, there were many unvaccinated people at the VBU National Mtg who never wore a mask. No enforcement by GSK of their vaccine mandate. Should have made sure that those who aren’t vaccinated due to an exemption were wearing masks. Instead, they put everyone at risk who attended the VBU National meeting! Do we really work for a healthcare company?? You could have fooled me!

Well now an employee who attended the meeting has tested positive for COVID-19. With 800 of us there, we don’t even know how many of us may have been exposed to this individual. GSK puts a lot of emphasis on “Doing the Right Thing”, but not when it comes to the health & wellbeing of their own employees.

You do understand that testing positive for Covid-19, especially at this point in time, likely means you have cold symptoms or NO symptoms? And do you not realize now that even the vaccinated get Covid AND still SPREAD Covid? The vaccine only means you might be protecting your own self a little more. But unless you’ve had booster #3 or #4recently, your vaccination status may not even matter for you!

But it’s time to move on… My guess is those complaining about this meeting really just didn’t want to go to the meeting. Now THAT I understand. And if you’re truly still fearful and worried about getting a cold or testing positive for Covid, that’s fine too and it’s up to each individual how they want to live their lives. You may just need to look for a job where you solely work from home.

The so called hundreds of people who were sick at the hotel was not due to Covid 19. They all got a stomach virus while we were all there. That was announced by Judy Stewart during the big tent session closing out the meeting. Several of our colleagues were smart to stay back as they were not able to fly home while others got sick in route to the airport on the shuttle bus and on their flights home. I agree however that there was no formal checking for vaccine status or negative test to attend. We all got a Covid test kit mailed to us and were only asked to report a positive test.

I would say that people in the US, regardless of political leanings, have mostly decided to get on with normal life and the government seems to be allowing that to happen without resorting to severe restrictions.

Don't believe liar Judy Stewart. I tested postive, reported to the company and had no followup from GSK. I did report to the local health authorities. It's so sad that we work for a major healthcare organization and the bury or look the other direction. Just confirms the negative attitude those have of big industry, especially pharma.

Well *I* told Judy Stewart that you are a troublemaker and a liar! She knows *all* there is to know about you!

This post makes some sense.

It may have been fun in the evening, but it was not a good meeting during the day. Except for the external speakers, it provided no value. Additionally, there has been no follow up communication regarding cause of GI illness-whether virus or food poisoning or any update on Covid case(s) Very poor

It wasn't good enough for me to postpone my fistulotomy

That really is the sad truth about GSK. They only care about MONEY! They could care less about the health & wellbeing of their employees who work so hard to bring all the money in so senior leadership can enjoy their big fat paychecks & bonuses! Once numerous reports of people falling sick came in very early Weds am to RVPs & FLLs, senior leadership should have canceled all the sessions, and figured out what they could do to help those who were really very sick. Everyone should have been told to stay in their hotel rooms so they could get a handle of what was going on & stop the spread. A thorough investigation should have taken place. The Dept. of Health should have been notified immediately. That would have been the right thing to do. The whole situation was not handled well at all. And those who got very sick have a right to know what actually caused this toxic illness. GSK owes that to them.
