Should I make the switch to Intuitive

I interviewed for a position with this company. After meeting the hiring manager, I politely told the recruiter, no thank you. The culture appears to be fear based and micro-managing. This might work for a kid out of college, but not for established medical device folks.

Good luck.

Why do these companies feel that they wil be more successful if they micro manage and instill fear and discomfort into their employees? It seems so stupid to me. I had an offer to interview for this company too but declined after reading these posts, met a manager by chance at a party (who was not impressive at all) and now am only reinforced by what I read. This company has a good product but it seems that they are blowing it. It costs a lot of money to train new hires.

Then you missed a golden opportunity bud. Intuitive does not instill fear at all. Some managers are jerks and micro-manage, which sucks. Mine is not that way though and I genuinely love this job more and more every day. It is such a different culture here. They thoroughly train us on the daVinci procedures and the robotics system itself, but they also teach us how to partner with hospitals and surgeons effectively. You don't have those types of relationships in other device areas like pacemakers, joints, trauma, stents, etc. They're a commodity and the only thing that matters is cheapest price. I've worked for Stryker and Medtronic CRDM and I'm speaking from experience.
Yes, I'm sure we spend a lot of money training reps and a number of them aren't right for the job. That's ok though. I wish them luck in their next opportunity.
We work hard here, we're paid well here, our benefits packages are good, and there are literally not enough hours in the day to do all we would like to do for our customers (good problem to have).

Oh yeah, and Intuitive Surgical stock is trading at $436.53 per share today.

Have a great weekend! Go St. Louis Cardinals!

Douche.

Well said! I'm fine with everyone trashing us on CP for a sterotype that was probably justified a few years ago. Its an unbelievable time to be with ISI now. Our stock is killing it and our pipeline is amazing. Good post

Just wait until we begin reprocessing your expensive disposables in early 2012 and begin saving your beloved hosptial 60%+ on them. Will you refuse to cover robot cases becuase the hosptial chose to buy reprocessed disposables? Doubt it bitch. Hospitals hate you and are constantly beating us up about reprocessing your shit. "Time for honoring yourselves will soon be at and end"

It won't happen. There are already companies trying to do this w/ our scopes, and they are unsuccessful. Hospitals pay an annual service contract and if they use unauthorized, non/Intuitive equipment they are no longer under warranty if something happens w/ the system. I don't necessarily agree w/ it, but Intuitive has these hospitals in a vice grip. Until a new competitor comes out, Intuitive has complete control and hospitals will continue to hate us for it.

Did you just quote Gladiator on CP. That's hilarious and stupid at the same time.

Explain the "reprocessing disposables" for us all. This should be good.

Good luck reprocessing the instruments. Each one has software encryption to prevent counterfeits and control the number of uses. Components in each instrument also fatigue, so even if you could bypass the software controls, the physical components of the system are not going to last much past the 10th use.
