Should I leave big pharma for Cook?

Cook has changed a lot-and NONE for the better. While not many are here to retire-everyone I know is looking to get out-I MEAN EVERYONE. Turnover in Urology is about to hit the fan, I hear Endoscopy is pissed too, and AI is always hiring. Knew a rep from Peripheral who quit recently and was threatening to sue for harassment. Cook used to be a fairly good place to work with a great corporate culture-all flushed down the sewer now-STAY AWAY OR GO BACKWARDS FOR YOUR TENURE HERE.

I'm actually kicking the shit out of endoscopy in my territory. Cook is sucking ass big time.
If you are in pharma and Cook offers you a job...TAKE IT! Stay a year or two for experience and move on. The salary is disgraceful and the "team bonus" is even more of a joke.
I interviewed with Cook and was actually offered a job from them as well as a competitor. The competitor paid a base salary $18,000 higher than Cook and the bonus was $50,000 at goal compared with the lousy $5,000 that you might or might not get at Cook.
Most likely you will be making more money in pharma than Cook. Don't let that distract you and turn down the job. Take it.............use them for what they're worth....get the experience and then move on to a competitor and clean the streets with them.
Best of luck!

If you have a strong internal drive to succeed and want to be rewarded for your efforts, Cook is not for the motivated. Cook has lost so many folks we have become paranoid in the hiring process (more concerned with who is gonna stay vs. who is the best). It has stunted our sales culture and worse, sterilized the quality of middle management. Development, personal growth, leadership? Don't come a knockin', because nobody's a comin'!
Stepping stone at best with a pharma stigma. Glorified account manager with car.

Keep Truckin'

It was regarding a post that said to take the cook opportunity if you have one over big pharma. This is a great company to work for...great culture. The money may not be the same as companies like Medtronic, etc. but still in the 100k + range. Plus, the phones start ringing with bigger and better opportunities after 2 years. Not many device companies even look twice at pharma reps. So, if there is an opportunity...take it. That is what I meant.

My reply was the previous post. I do have to say it all depends on the division, growth opportunity, current sales in territory, etc. Some reps are in the red making no commission and others are making good commission. One of the top reps in my division was averaging $8-$13,000/month in his territory last year. Though this is rare...it all depends. Either way...it beats pharma and a great in to device.

thank you to the last 2 post responses..sounds like a great place to be and you can make 100K depending on territory/division. i was told the average comm per quarter is about 3k?? what is training like? i also did hear that once you've got cook on resume the recruiters call after 2 years for bigger med oppt making way more $$. thanks for honest feedback

You're welcome. Again, the commission I posted is rare. If you want an in w/ device this is it. I know some base salaries are $55,000 some are $80,000. I would make sure you are ok w/ 3,000/quarter in commission if that is the case in that division. Good luck to you.

What division are you interviewing with? That will make ALL the difference.
