Should Coworkers Who Attended Insurrection At The DC Capitol Be Fired?

Give me a break. Start living by the bill of rights and constitution and you won’t need to take anything back. Start with police brutality, voter suppression and gerrymandering before trying to take your country back. >>>

First, I am the poster calling for major political reforms like Term Limits and removing the Congressional Pension. Hate me but it would be good for ALL AMERICANS. Yes, and take back OUR country collectively. I'd label myself, and I hate labels as you should, as an Independent or Independent libertarian bias, who's voted far left, far right and many times in the middle, if they appeared to the best person at that particular point in time for that particular position.

But these politicians should move on after a few terms. They are public SERVANTS. They all should not get to comfortable with their egos, power and temptations at every turn. All of them. Feel free to disagree. I think your naïve if you want the Pelosi's and McConnell's in there forever. A great example coming out of 2020 is the State of Ohio. Massive corruption. Ohio, I believe is one of only 7 or so States that still do not have Term Limits. And the corruption is directly, causally correlated.

Let's analyze your comment with my opinion and perspective as you knock "taking our country back!":

Bill of Rights and Constitution - I take no issue with the grave concerns voiced against President Trump regarding each. Many, many examples of serious concerns regarding his "overstatement" and scope of powers in the Executive Office. In fact, nothing in the text or history of the amendment was stopping the vice president, the Cabinet, and Congress from determining that the president is “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.” The 25th Amendment provision. But, beware, we have an incoming president-elect with clear signs of pre-senile dementia. President Biden will need all the cognitive enhancers working 24/7 to keep him going. I mean this with all due respect, empathy and compassion as mental illness and mental disease is every where. So, when will we need to remove him in the next 4 years?

Police Brutality - I have commented on many boards on brutality and murder. I'd add targeting and the crime of the over criminalization of African Americans in this country. We need legislative reform on the later. We also need Police Union reform. Way too much power (like the Teachers Union, now you may balk at that) to unjustly cover up the sins of the bad apples. We need Tribunals or such as unbiased courts. We need continued education and re-education. So, yes, as a white male who has been targeted in his life, I am keenly aware of this injustice. And I have black friends who always say, hey I was late cause I was pulled over. Why? I ask. They say, "DWB". Targeting, brutality, etc. are all disgustingly wrong.

Voter Suppression - Yes, on any side is criminal. Root it all out. The same is true of Gerrymandering as it is manipulative. It is simply counter to our free and fair election law and ideals in electing officials.

So, no arguments here. But I would ADD these are just as important for the people of this REPUBLIC:
  • TERM LIMITS
  • PENSION REMOVAL OR MAJOR REFORM
  • LOBBYIST REFORM

In case you did not know, our Federalists defined our political system as a republic and not a pure democracy. Preserving the republican freedoms we cherish requires tempering egalitarian zeal and moderating the hope for a perfectly just democracy. Sorry... but I will not apologize for words our fore fathers used such as republic and republican. That is as much a part of who we are as a Republic as being Democratic. And there are many forms of justice, not just voting justice, racial justice, etc. There is the need for recognizing in a real way the non-majoritarian parts of the community make legitimate contributions to the community’s welfare. And preserving these contributions is the hallmark of political justice.

Your welcome to disagree with our founding fathers wisdom.
Peace

No, you don’t have “Black Friends.” Go Fuck yourself.

lmao, the baiting continues! Good post (43), way too long but most of us are fair minded. It's the fringe folk who are scary on any side of an issue.

Yep. Sadly, after all the rioting, looting, and burning of our cities this past summer coupled with the recent event at the capitol, it is becoming painfully apparent there are a lot of fringe loons on both the far left and far right sides of the aisle.

Ain’t “both sides”. Those radical Domestic Terrorists in DC need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Then we can “unite”

If you seriously think what the protests too often devolved into for weeks and months on end this past summer, you are a on the left wing fringe and are a part of the problem.

There is no excuse or justification for what occurred at the capitol or all the rioting, vandalism, and looting we had to endure all summer. Those trying to justify it one on side or the other are the myopic partisans contributing to the ongoing division and problems in this country.

Two main differences.

1. Sumner protest over unjustified killings of unarmed citizens. Demanded justice and fair trials.

The Capital terrorist was protesting against democracy based on a lie. Over 60 courts ruled against the admin false election claims. They just didn’t get their way.

2. The sumner protest didn’t urinate and shit. The domestic terrorist at the capital urinated and shit inside our nations capitol. Go figure

This is just partisan rationalization. While the reason behind the protests of the summer was more understandable and justifiable, no reason for protests that devolve into rioting, looting, vandalism, etc is ever Consititutional, legal, or justifiable. Crime and illegal behavior cannot and should not be excused away by anyone on either side of the political aisle.

The Constitution guarantees our right of peaceful assembly and protest. No where does it mention the right to riot, vandalize, loot, burn cities, or enter the capitol for dangerous purposes.

Many of the "protesters" rioting and committing crime all summer were affiliated with left wing extremist groups like Antifa. Antifa is mostly a group of anti-American, far left communists and anarchists. Their behavior, much like the Proud Boys and far right extreme groups is more about creating chaos, anarchy, and unrest with the goal of bringing about radical, extreme change than anything else. Those peacefully assembling and protesting were mostly those truly concerned about George Floyd and perceived discrimination by police. protesters.

Your viewpoint underscores the double standard politically and in the media. Too many on both sides only can see their own viewpoint and too often side with those closest to their ideology and perceived tribe, even when illegal and antisocial behavior is involved.

Until the majority of Americans are willing to call out both sides and condemn bad and harmful behaviors period, the divisiveness and tribal politics in the US will only intensify and get worse.

Anyone with any intelligence of any race, color or creed and any sense of decency, fair mindedness and justice knows there has been wrong on, not two sides, but all sides that divide this nation today. I will not preach "Lies." or "Unity" or "Steals" or "Revenge". I will speak of mindset and intent in all things you have control over. Let know one corrupt that choice, it's yours to bring justice and peace if that is your intent.

You know when peace arrives? When vengeance and revenge end. Which is typically never in the scope of human behavior in my 64 years on earth. I am called a racist when I spoke out for social justice in the early days of my career, as in the late 80s and 90s. Before many of you were born or certainly, reached puberty.

I only have hope, if people on all sides put their arrogance down, weapons down and humbly admit we need to work very hard just to begin to work on solving major problems in this country. But everyone has to be honest, that no one, no politician, no corporate executive, no aristocrat, no one, has the perfect answer or perfect truth. The truth is in simply, admitting we are 'broken' as a country right now and choose to really listen to each other and not respond with our reptilian brain. But high conscious that calls us to listen to the point of some understanding that changes and moves everyone forward, for the better. Yes, I am born a white Caucasian male. Yes, some African Americans, without knowing me have called me racist. But they are prejudging. And others that get to know me, and see my life choices differ. They see I have been targeted just as many of my African American brothers and sisters are targeted in one shape or form. Remember, I grew up in the 60s and 70s.

They know I can be despondent with Executive leaders like our CEO as they have known for decades what is "right" and what is "wrong". But they build their political and power moats and kept it predominately snow white. And then they told people like me to behave differently. But they didn't mean it. I did because my parents are the ones who played the role of instilling values like "do not prejudge", "treat everyone with respect", "do not judge by outward appearances but by behavior". Wow, I laugh every time an executive tells me how to behave socially and equitably. The Laws of this land have long been in place.

And they know my mindset is to simply, humbly work on inclusion of everyone with as much social and ethical equality as possible. With whatever power you possess, choose to act on diversity with inclusion of all people and you will be following the intent of true leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King. Be as best you can, what you ought to be.

As Dr. Martin Luther King said, not long before he lost his life,

All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be...
