Short term disability and getting fired

If you have a pip on you, and apply for short term/ fmla, my understanding is that an employer still can fire you, so what would be the point of taking it? The 3rd party firm that processes and approves this said they never have seen it happen, but was just wondering

Is there a valid reason for you taking leave? Can you just roll your sleeves up and try to work through the PIP? I had a PIP put on my many years ago because my top writer moved out of the area and my numbers tanked. Took me a while but I clawed back to my old quota levels. I suppose it depends on your manager- sorry as I know the stress you are under!

Emotional distress, from what I gather, I am older and having no luck finding another job. Lawyers say it is forgone conclusion I will get fired. My manager is super demanding, so I think it what he wants me to get done is near impossible, and he keeps rating unsatisfactory, so I trying to buy time

This may sound crazy, but have you thought about a contract pharma job through a firm like Iqvia, Syneos, etc.? It will be a cut in pay but the stress and expectations might be lower. Most contract firms just want reps to go out and make a certain number of calls/signatures etc per day. Just a thought.
