severance

Noboday is negotiating severance. Total BS if somebody tells you they did. Severance in bulk layoffs has to be standardized to avoid legal complications. The only difference is that some people are designated as not re-employable and some are eligible to work again for Shire in a different capacity. They told you your status on the phone call if you were not eligible for continued employment at Shire. Don't sign up for the Cobra, you can buy equivalent insurance your self for a fraction of the Cobra price.

nobody is negotiating severance who didnt have the foresight to hire a $500 an hour attorney and be prepared . Ovecourse they are not offering up severance to everybody if they dont have to. And no, it does not have to be standardized,,that's complete BS

Believe what you want, those of us who did in fact negotiate know differently. I will say I have been through this before with another company and didn't negotiate. I found out others did and this is the only reason I went out and spoke to an attorney about it in October when I learned we might be getting laid off. It cost me a total of $330 for the attorney. The money I made in negotiation was well and beyond that small amount so very worth it.

Is it to late to negotiate if you haven't signed yet?

Thanks for help, spoke to lawyer (425$ later) and should be able to secure enough for 2 mortgage payments so it was worth it. Nobody going to offer you sh$t unless you have your lawyer contact HR directly.

What's the concensus out there?

Have most of you signed your severance letters yet?

Any of you seeking lawyers? I was going to sign but I've read a lot of articles and consulted with a lawyer and I definitely have a valid case for additional severance.

I just wanted to throw it out there in the hopes that some of you would take your time before signing.

Good Luck!!

I hear everyone asking for more severance but I don't hear how your doing it? What is your reason? Length of service? What is the reason you feel you deserve to ask for more?
