how did everybody do severance wise. Pretty standard from what I can tell. 2 weeks for each year plus 6 months paid health insurance. Cobra is for 18 months so after 6 months, my health Ins. will go way up

suckers, i consulted with a labor attorney b4 this shit storm and negotiated...well lets say approx. 100k plus 12 months insurance in return for signing a 6 month non compete. be smart people. i surely hope u were all smart enough to consult an attorney before your call. if not, shame on you..

Negotiated mine also. Didn't get 100K, but did get very close to that with somewhere between 40-52 weeks of severance. I didn't have to sign a non compete. But I also only got 10-12 weeks of medical.

Severance can be negotiated but be aware that if you negotiate you will not be able to discuss the terms. So these two post above are fake because no one would discuss let alone post on CP what they exactly recieve and jeopardize their settlement. I wish these posters would show some class and stay off the board. Prob same idiot trying to stir the pot. My advice get a qualified attourney and protect yourself. No idea what we can get but these negotiations take time which is additional ecidence that the prior post are fake. Best of luck.

Also, if the above posters did negotiate then how did they know they were getting laid-off?? How did they have time to do so before the lay-off? They would have had to have known the actual terms of their severance before they could negotiate. Shire was so tight lipped about the lay-offs that it would have been impossible to have negotiated before lay-offs. Shire would have had to have told these morons they were getting laid-off well before the actual lay-off!

As the poster above stated...more idiots trying to stir the pot!!

EVERYONE knew they had a chance of being laid off on Nov. 2nd. At that point, several people voluntarily resigned and negotiated severance packages. On Oct. 29th, Managers received their perspective region maps. They had a good idea of who would be leaving or who could be leaving. Some managers tipped off a few reps that it doesn't look good for them. Those people also could have negotiated severance packages to voluntarily leave and save a few folks. So it was not impossible to negotiate as you say.

Noboday is negotiating severance. Total BS if somebody tells you they did. Severance in bulk layoffs has to be standardized to avoid legal complications. The only difference is that some people are designated as not re-employable and some are eligible to work again for Shire in a different capacity. They told you your status on the phone call if you were not eligible for continued employment at Shire. Don't sign up for the Cobra, you can buy equivalent insurance your self for a fraction of the Cobra price.
