severance pay for quitting...YES YOU CAN

First, where did you hear this?

The truth about Nov 9 Severance.

1. Yes if you volunteer you will receive severance (paid on Nov 30th)
2. Q4 bonus will be prorated
3. 222 bonus - not clear if this will be prorated if you qualify when you quit
4. Insurance will cover the number of weeks you earned for severance. And whatever the last month the weeks of severance gets you to that will be the last month of coverage.
5. When you resign - your done that day

I HAVENT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT THE POSTER ABOVE HAS SAID! I assuming that if you wait until that time and aren't laid off then you wont get anything...

You assume correctly. If you wait and are not laid off you won't get any type of severance package. Severance packages will only go to those who volunteer for it by the end of this week or to those displaced.

I posted about the options on Nov 28, I heard that from an RD but given the sensitivity of the information I could not ask a lot of questions, did not want to tip my hand. It sounded like you might have an option to accept or reject placement on Nov 28th but I do not know how that affects severance option.

Regarding severance is 3 weeks per year of tenure accurate with a minimum of 9 weeks offered?

Its 2 weeks per year for sales reps witha minimum of 4 weeks.
Its 3 weeks per year for senior reps and higher with a minimum of 6 weeks according to Orbit. If you are volunteering you may be able to negotiate something else, I don't know.

Do you think there is negotiating room to volunteer?? Get more severance to quit early...

I would think you would have more room to negotiate. It's much cheaper for the company to have someone resign with a severance then it is to have them displaced with a severance, severance runs out then they go on unemployment. All costs the company more money. They would most likely have you sign a form saying you resigned so they don't have to pay unemployment to you in a few months. Also you resigning looks much better on a PR level. So yes, I absolutely think their is negotiating room which is why they didn't announce specifics on the conference call other than "talk to your RD and we can work something out for you" It would cost them nothing to give you 2 weeks per year instead of 3 weeks per year, or 9 week minimum instead of 4 or 6. They wanted you to talk to your RD so they could evaluate the specifics per each person. Someone who has been with the company 10 years may be offered the standard versus someone who has been here only 2 years, who cares about an extra week of severance for them. However, a 10 year employee's unemployment costs would be much more than a person who has been here for 2 years. Each situation is different, that is the reason for the blanket comment "talk to your RD and we can work something out"

I would think not. That's why I would want the buyout details laid out for me. Once they know you want to leave you have no leverage.

What kind of leverage do you have if they don't know you want to leave? NOTHING? Either you get placed and get nothing other than a territory. Or you resign early and get a severance. If you want to leave getting placed will do nothing for you. I don't understand what leverage you think you have?

Thank you for taking the time to post this info. I appreciate it! GLTA!

You volunteered and they gave you your full severance? Also are they having you work untill the end of the month like the rest of us? Thanks in advance for any information.

Yes, volunteered and getting full severance. When you volunteer you are giving them your two week notice. It is up to your RD if you finish out that 2 weeks, but either way you are paid for it, plus whatever severance you get. If you choose to purchase your car, fleet will contact you with a price quote. I am using part of my severance to purchase mine since it is less than blue book value.

Good luck to everyone

Why did you leave? Another job offer?

How do you know? Why not?

I imagine it has something to do with your car itself, mileage, etc. There was talk about a big percentage of the sales force ordering new cars around this time, but obviously that's not happening. I'm totally just guessing, but I would think that if your car has high mileage and was one of the ones due to get replaced with a newer one, you'd probably be able to negotiate.
