Seprafilm Slurry

what is slurry? how is genzyme bio surgery doing this 2012 so far? i am looking to interview for a position and read all posts from the past etc. i know most cafe pahrma stff is true yet, people are pretty annoyed when writing too. so, i can only take so seriously... etc. thoughts!!??

what's the deal with the company's bio surg (sanofi owned now).

a good move still?

NO!!! Genzyme actually cared about patients and made corporate decisions based on that, rather than just the bottom line. Genz treated its employees very well and I hear that things are VERY ugly there. Can you make decent money? You use to be able to. No longer. Sanofi cares about the bottom line.

Well said my friend... Things are getting very corporate and annoying around here. If you can deal with a lot of bullshit, then you might be fine. The big money days are over though

Step away from Genzyme Sanofi. It is a mess.I use to work there for alsmost 20 years and I am in contact with colleauges at the company. It is a cluster mess. It WAS a great company. It is an opportunity to get into medical device sale and a resume builder but it will not be fun.The whole S&M staff has turned over.So the blind is leading the blind.Good luck.

Can someone please give me a quick few points on the biosurgery division? I am looking for the positives and negatives and info on the competition.

-Is Sep superior or inferior realistically speaking to the competition?
-Is Genzyme committed to this therapeutic area or are they looking to get out of it (didn't see much in the pipeline here)
-Where is this division headed - Is this still going to be a Genzyme division or run by SA as I know SA has split up their business units under Sa and Genzyme
-Is there any job stability here (comparatively speaking to the industry in general)
-Is this seen a different sell from biologics as I currently manage a biotech team of sales people
-Any other info that would be helpful about making a career change?

Thanks in advance for any serious and informative replies.

Are you interviewing for a rep or mgr position?

Try answer your questions since I helped develop Seprafilm.

Seprafilm is the product leader. However it only has a label claim for GYN/GI open procedures.Laparoscopic was off labeled promotion and you can read about that fiasco under sepra slurry.

Were in development of a laparoscopic delivered material.Sepraspray and another product.Sepraspray completed safety and published the GYN safety data. Not sure what is up with the other product.

Not sure whether they are commited to adhesion prevention.I think they are trying to ride the product profit out until something comes on the market in 3-4 years and not put anything into R&D.Pure profit play. Most of the Sales and Marketing people have left or let go.

Not like selling a biologic.Have to convience surgeons to use it because they do not think they cause adhesions but other surgeons do.Funny how that works

Good luck.I hope this helps

Thank you for your help. The product seems really helpful to patients. I am a little concerned about the "slurry" lawsuit. How is the culture with something like this going on?

Any specific reasons the sales and mkting people have left or been let go??

Me again
How does that happen? Sales weasels trying to make numbers Sat in a meeting with a clinician showing us slurry. My jaw dropped in horror. Started doing preclinical studies to better understand but s& m people started promoting. Doj had good reason to slap hands. Computer hard drives taken by DOJ.

Do I have to tell you why turnover had occurred . I heard new crop of sales people are clueless. Therefore if you have a half brain you will do well. Make sure you touchbase with R&D people , they are a great resource of info also

I completely agree with you on this... New employees, DO NOT SELL SLURRY unless you want your next title to be "Unemployed". Ironically enough though there are still some people dumb enough to continue selling slurry to clinicians thinking that they'll never get caught. I know that the west and southeast still sell a ton of it. I guess they'll learn the hard way. Wish I had blown the whistle first...

Any folks who have been here for a few years or more weigh in on whether this division has a future regarding products, mgt, and vision? From an outsider looking in it looks as if the pipeline is suspect, sounds like they just cleaned house with sales folks and mgt over the slurry, and I just saw Baxter made an acquisition for a biosurgery company. Any thoughts on these issues?

Future? hahahahahah... We've been promised new products since 2003. We keep hearing "sepra spray" is coming for laparoscopic use. What a joke. All of the really good sales people who made this division what it is either quit or got fired for selling slurry. At some point Seprafilm will have a good competitor and will put the division under. Most of our sales growth every year comes from two areas: price increases, and people selling off label!

From an outsider looking in this looks like a very dismal place to work or try to "grow" with the division or new company (SA). I was possibly interested in a position here but with all of the posts above, and on other threads, it does not look like the best career move for me. Thanks for all of the info.
