Sedasys

So what components are they actually selling here?

Is it strictly hardware sales on the Sedasys device? Or are they going to pretty much give the Sedasys device away to sell the associated disposables that apply to the different patient parameter monitors? Or are they selling both?

I hope this thing never hits GI labs. If it does, a requierment for a CRNA or an Anesthesiologist be mandotary to manage it. Current FDA labaling states that Propofol can only be used by general anesthesia trained practitioners (MD or CRNA).

Is there a sales force for this division? When is the device expected to hit the market? Sounds a little shaky if you ask me. How will this Ethicon division compare to others?

Actually, every state has a different recommendation about the use and delivery of Propofol. The pharma company who makes Propofol recommends anesthesia or crna, but since when do we only give medications based on drug company recommendations. I can personally think of a lot of off label uses for many drugs. That being said, this is a machine to administer sedation. There will still be someone responsible for the care of the patient and for operating the machine. I can compare this machine to the first IV pump. I am sure people were scared and non trusting of a machine delivering medicine to the patient. Think about that now, would we give away our IV pumps? I doubt it. Change can be good!

Word on the street is that the Reps are top notch and paid like it, but FS thinks the internal mgt team are a bunch of befuddled bufoons that will fold once the shit hits the fan. I give this doc n the box less than 2yrs if FDA approves it. Watch how fast J&J dumps this thing once the lawsuits start rolling in.

Already approved. : )

Anesthesia is fighting this tooth and nail.
They have been giving crappy service to GI for years,
and now it is biting them in the butt. GIs would love to have this,
and not have to put up with the prima donnas.
No guarantee it will get the FDA rubber stamp, as ASA will
put contracts out on anyone who votes for it.
Bottom line, a machine does as well or better.
Patients want it, GI docs want it, it is safer than human error,
and only anesthesia is against it.
It is the beginning of the end for anesthesia.

Here's........sedasys!!!! She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes....she'll be coming round the mountain when she comes......oh wait, she'll replace some people's jobs....oh, she won't be well received in the USA. Even if anesthesia providers don't like endoscopy they really don't like being replaced by a machine even more!!!! Oh the fun, to watch these high paid monitor watchers be replaced!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!
