Sales trip to Hawaii

I guess that’s why Cate Pharma is full of false news. No one has canceled the trip. The volcanic activity is still considered safe from Kona and other islands aren’t effected. Check the Hawaii news things could change but so far it has not http://www.hawaiicounty.gov/active-alerts
Ridiculous to go to an island and enjoy when others on island are losing everything they have. Must be sick. When does this trip take place

Definitely in poor taste for Merck to send winners there this week. I am worried for some friends there. There are major threats present with air quality, volcano eruptions, major earthquakes, etc.

Absolutely correct

Despicable and bordering on unethical, for a Pharma Company that says it "cares" about people to have a Sales "feel good" meeting in the same island where thousands of families have lost everything they own, as well as their memories.

Instead, Merck should cancel the trip and donate the save money to the victims of the most volcanic eruption.

That's the right thing to do

On the contrary - tourism is their largest industry. I not going on the trip but the kindest thing Merck can do is help them keep their jobs and move on with life. Maybe the company can organize some type of volunteer event as part of the meeting. Better yet, why don't you donate YOUR paycheck to a relief fund?

You sound like a liberal...”somebody has to pay for this!” This trip was planned over a year ago...how is Merck on the hook for these people deciding to build in zone 1 of a volcano? So many vacations have been cancelled due to the media making the whole island sound unsafe. If anything, Merck is actually helping the folks of Hawaii by keeping the trip there because so much revenue has been lost due to cancellations. I feel bad for the families who have lost everything too, but it was a calculated risk they took living there. Get out your checkbook and stroke a check instead of telling other people they are horrible for not stroking a check.

Classic Liberal response of telling other people how to spend their money while doing nothing with yours.

Merck knew for several weeks what was going on in Hawaii. Easily could have switched to another island which would have kept the money in Hawaii. You just don ‘t go to the island where people are losing everything. That is the reality of the situation.
