round 2

Need honest feedback on what's going on. I am interviewing for an Endo opening in North Dakota and am freaked out about all this going down. So to get it straight, energy is no longer going to part of the EES bag? Is it still going to be sold by a new division of ethicon or did you guys sell the rights to harmonic and enseal to a different company?

No offense but I really wanted to sell those and if the job is only mechanical etc don't know if I will continue pursuing. Please let me know asap as the recruiter and hiring manager isn't saying anything about what is going on.

Thanks in advance

Here's the scoop. Energy has been spun off as a separate company; you won't be selling it. Sometime soon Endo, Ethicon Inc, Hernia, Cordis, and EWHU will be merged into one company to be renamed "general surgery". There will probably be at least 50% of the combined sales reps let go. Still want the job?

The last part is completely made up. We have no idea if there will be any layoffs at the field sales level. If there is, we have no way of knowing which division would even be impacted. Making a claim like that is just foolish.
Take your tin foil hat off and come out of your bomb shelter.

I agree with this post. I am with EWHU and they have been saying for years that we would fold. We have not hit forecast in years, but Gary P would never get rid of us. I think these are all rumors, we just bought a new vacation house because I know they won't make any large cuts.

Let's see, they are merging divisions but there's no reason to think they will cut the reps.....yeah. This is all about downsizing.

Full line reps selling in smaller specialty/procedure based territories. Fewer managers at the Division level. Fewer managers at the home office level. Some downsizing yes. But 50% of the sales force? Ridiculous

You don't think 50% of the reps will be let go? Just add it up. Add up how many Endo, Inc, Hernia, Cordis and EHWU reps you have in your city. Then realize that one rep is going to handle the contracts for all the businesses in a hospital.

That's what you aren't understanding. It's going to be procedure/specialty based territories. Not hospital based territories. You can still have several Ethicon reps calling on the same hospital, just not calling on the same surgeon. And not all Ethicon business is contract business. That's something endo reps don't always understand.

Right now we have procedural based reps: hernia, EWHU, Mentor/plastics, and it isn't working. We are not going to procedural based reps; we are going to ONE rep covering all business units in a hospital. Some hospitals will have no rep coverage.

what you described there are "specialty" based reps. Not procedural based.

If you are on top of the sales force, you are holding a first class ticket on the Titantic. If you know what's good for you...you should be heading for the life boats and looking at your options with other companies. Companies are always willing to hire top performers, especially from JNJ. If you are holding a second class ticket on the "Titantic" (Thus not in the top 20%) well...we all know what happened.

Exactly. If you are a member of the chosen few who get to sell energy, you're just buying time. All this will do is provide greater visibility into the hits Harmonic has taken from reprocessing and how Enseal doesn't stack up against Ligasure, causing additional restructuring. J&J is just a stockholder profit machine and all measures will be taken to keep the company looking good on paper.

Potential interviews

I heard about a new device company that is interested in Ethicon reps that have sold to general surgeons. They are launching a stapler for inquinal and ventral hernia repair.

Has anyone heard of this or knows who the company is?

There is no longer a Endo, Hernia, Cordis or EWHU rep in my city. That is why I have moved my business to the competition. No rep locally = no business locally. That is the way it works. One day they may wise up. Probably not. China will get my business before JNJ gets it back.
