Time to Legalize Marijuana? - 500+ Economists Endorse Marijuana Legalization

The report shows that marijuana legalization -- replacing prohibition with a system of taxation and regulation -- would save $7.7 billion per year in state and federal expenditures on prohibition enforcement and produce tax revenues of at least $2.4 billion annually if marijuana were taxed like most consumer goods. If, however, marijuana were taxed similarly to alcohol or tobacco, it might generate as much as $6.2 billion annually.

I will take 500 Economists over the Bird's religious fueled lame duck opinion any day.

LOL!

Let me sum up your position for you. States' financial experience with alcohol (net LOSER). Fool me once, shame on you.

States' financial experience with tobacco (net loser). Fool me twice, shame on me.

Solid projection and the only rational projection, based upon HISTORICAL EXPERIENCE not MFAS's opinion, States' experience with marijuana is overwhelmingly likely to be a FINANCIAL LOSER. Hey, I'm an idiot so go ahead and fool me repeatedly! The BN credo!!!!!

A very good documentary. Had Morrison been a burnout, instead of a raging drunk, he might still be alive. Living with a Heroin-Addicted Girlfriend, didn't help much either. It is said in this piece, that Morrison did not like her use of Heroin. I don't really see the difference in this case.

That was fascinating Libs. As I think I told you, I have a friend who was once in the group management & concert booking business (now owns a CD/video business) who managed them when they were first catching on (in the $150 per night category). He developed a close friendship w/ Manzarek that lasted until he passed but gave up on the Doors because, he said, Morrison was lost and unmanageable. He needed a babysitter/nanny more than a manager.

It's interesting that some people feel the need to use words like 'freak' and 'fiend' when describing pot or sex but they never use either word when referring to the substance that kills over 25,000 Americans per year - nor do they use it with cigarettes which kill over 443,000 per year (http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/tables/health/attrdeaths/). Most people I know who use pot do so in a way that doesn't harm anyone else, instead, they attain relaxation in a non harmful way. We see them all the time in a crowd or at a POA meetings, etc. Obviously, if they were freaks or fiend (as depicted in Reefer Madness) they'd stand out and be arrested. It just doesn't happen.

These people are afraid and stuck in Reefer Madness (1936) mentality where it's referred to as a 'violent narcotic'.

As usual, you are being dishonest regarding my positions.

But please show me the marijuana legislation that includes prohibition of alcohol and we'll talk. Till then, you're just a whiner who doesn't understand basic math any better than you do basic biology.

You don't make bad situations like drinking and cigarettes better by adding another problematic substance. That is utter nonsense!

marijuana legislation and prohibition of alcohol

Alcohol prohibition repealed on 12/5/1933

Marijuana - In order to keep it from competing with the new and soaring alcohol sales, a few years later, Cannabis was regulated as a drug in every state (by the mid 30s) including 35 states that adopted the Uniform State Narcotic Drug Act.
