Ride alongs

Does anyone have any scheduled ride-alongs between now and the announcement? If you do, how do you actually work knowing that there is a VERY high percent chance that you will be out of a job and you could really care less if you work or not.

I am in South Carolina. My manager is working with us on a Geri at basis. A lot of time is spent talking about layoffs, but I think that is ok right now. We are making calls, but probably not good ones. I think both managers and reps are trying and doing the best we can. I have friends in other districts and their managers are doing the same.

My manager and I had a "ride-a-long" yesterday. We went to the casino and then went to lunch at Friday's and drank. We talked about the good years in pharma, the terrible last 5 years at NPC, the NPC culture, incorrect targeting which equated to incorrect goaling and low ratings, and then she got in her car and left with a hug and a best of luck wish. All Managers should be doing the same thing if they have any compassion for those that "buttered their bread" because they are all going to be gone as well and they need to thank those that supported them.

I am a FLM, knowing 70% reps gone and that is a low percent. Also 90% FLM's gone. I told my team to get their resumes ready and start interviewing. Just look out for yourself and family do what you need to do.

you are the kind of real world manager that this company needs more of. you are rare. Bless you for looking out for your team and their families and having respect for them. I'm sure your team respects you immensely!! good luck to you and your team.

I'm an FLM as well. I fully expect to have to make a 11 unhappy phone calls in April, and it is eating at my heart. I WILL be riding with my reps, helping them to keep their heads up and hopefully helping them to see that they should try to get as much of that Accelerator cash as possible. I will also be taking time to go over thier resumes, talk about interview skills, and share job & recruiter information. This is a difficult and awful situation, whether you are leaving happily or with sadness in your heart. I'll be doing field rides because I genuinely enjoy my team and I will miss them. I know that they will all land on their feet, and likely they will be stronger for the experience. What I can do for them now is let them vent, help them stay the course, and write them FCRs that they can proudly take to their interviews in the coming months.

You also sound like a fantastic manager. managers should always focus on their reps development in good times and bad. this motivates a rep far more than fear tactics and make them want to do their best for themselves and family but also for you. i am glad to hear that this company has at least 2 managers who "get it" and don't drink the koolaid and treat their people like puppets. God bless.

Ditto. FLM here too... This whole situation is sad, and while many of us will be gone we still have a job to do right now. I too have been offering support and resume help to the reps. Some are so disengaged... It's sad. The anger and frustration towards us is hard. We are just trying to do our jobs too.

Our FLM is business as usual, so excited about the Initiative to make money and driving us crazy. Our goals are not "attainable or exceedable" and in the end Novartis will screw with the numbers to work in their favor anyway. I dread every Friday that I may wake up to the call of " Can I ride with you this afternoon after all of my Teleconferences?" Please just give me a month of peace arghhhhhhhh :)

Ummm, where were you when I worked at Novartis? I was part of the displacement last year. I NEVER had a good manager during my 6 years at Novartis!

I have had a few good manager only one did everything well. If your a good rep you take there coaching and there strong points they all have streghts and weaknesses just like us. Some of my managers i will miss others if there car broke down and it was raining I would drive by them in my crappy fusion and laugh. Most I have respected excepted there coaching but i have enjoyed the ride alongs. Now though WHAT IS THE POINT?
