Revised Layoff Date in October and Latest News and Headlines: "THE Insider"

Yes, why should we expect ethical responsibilty from the turds while they cut everyone loose in mid-career. It sucks having to reinvent yourself when you have been doing this for 22 years. It used to be many years ago, when companies had lay offs, they had outplacements services, long severnce, and job retraining. Not now- it's get out and screw you and your families.
 




Not to beat the dead horse.....but give the pharma companies more than "finally figuring it out". They did not arrive as $70billion, highly profitable companies by lagging behind. There have been publications out for several years on the declining value of drug marketing in the trenches (rep to physcian) and the permanent decline in pharma reps to more than half likely by 2012. Perhaps the comment should be "Pharma reps are finally figuring out what New Brunswick has known all along". Wake up and smell the coffee! The time is NOW to "re-model" self.. go back to school, intern, network so that YOU are not sitting on the curb somewhere "figuring" it out. They have it figured out....are you gonna sit around and wait to see if you "figure" in? Be prepared. Downsizing from an industry high of 120,000 reps to around 60,000 by 2012 means the stakes are high...a 50/50 chance of losing the job. And you will not be taking your stellar pharma experience to another pharma job...those skill sets along with all your prep to transition are what you'll have to start on the day after the notification. And I bet at the end of the day, New Brunswick will give you credit for knowing what they have known all along. J&J does not intend to show corporate social responsibility. They do no intend to invest in re-tooling reps for another job as they permanently eliminate these. It is up to you, my friend, to take that responsibility and run with it. Good Luck..and get busy!

I agree with most everything you say. I don't agree that New Brunswick has known all along that the impact of their sales reps has been diminished so dramatically. Reps have been saying for many years now that they hoped the home office doesn't figure out that it really doesn't matter if we are here or not. Management seems to believe that if we just role played through a few more hours during district meetings that somehow everything will be good again. Most people in my district say that we will just keep pretending that what we do matters, when really what matters is better positioning on managed care formularies. I'm sure a big restructure across all J&J is in the cards as it is for all BIG PHARMA. If Bill Weldon wants to be known as the Credo CEO, he will do something dramatic to take care of the displaced employees. Unfortunately, the Board will not allow that to happen. Take your two weeks for every year and see you later.

The role playing at district meetings?...pretending what we do matters?...sounds like trying to justify the job and concerned that it would only be a matter of time before this gig was up. People at home office aren't living in a bubble. Many moved into the home office from the field. Again, these are uber successful, extremely profitable corporate entities. Check out how many pharma companies are in the Fortune 50. To not know the business...cannot buy that..sorry. When I see sample utilizaton reports, drug360 programs, patient starter vouchers replacing samples, call planning reports where the rep indicates the level of access, and yada yada....me thinks the intelligence has been out there for some time.

Ahhh, good ole corporate america- when I'm done with you take a hike- who cares about the years of service you have provided for the company and the many overtime hours and dedication you gave. I think corporate america should take one in the ass! What's going to happen since we are all being shit on from up above, and there are no jobs to be found-- is there are many enterpernuers being hatched right now. Hopefully you find something competetive to stick it to these guys.\

I am now hearing that things have been pushed to November. Watch the 3rd quarter report on Tuesday for indications...
 








Well clearly nothing is going to happen in October at all. Everyone will be preparing for their meetings and nothing will happen this month.

Why is it clear nothing is going to happen in October? Planning for meetings means nothing in the grand scheme of things. I think you need some more concrete proof for anyone to put any faith in that statement at all!

If you think something is going to happen, then give us some concrete proof. There have been several reps that have already purchase their flights for the upcoming meetings. From what has been layed out in terms of meeting schedules, I can't imagine things are now going to happen before...maybe after in November, but not before.

What kind of proof are you looking for? You want Joaquin's emails to Weldon saying it is happening at 9am Monday? People that put the dates out (legit ones) are getting them from people that hear it from others in the home office. These things just don't get hatched and executed in 48 hours. It takes months of planning and sometimes target dates are missed or things happen that alter plans. This round has already started internally and with the SBG. People there have already been notified they are out. More will come in the coming days/weeks. Field is not the only place feeling it. This is going all the way up to President & VP levels (Vergis, Oliver, Mitchell)....and more to come...wink wink Janssen...
