Rep lay offs in January or just Reorg?

I am wondering if we have rep cuts coming in January. I pick January because that seems to be when Merck always does them. I have also heard that the company may combine primary care and hospital reps and get rid of organizing us as port 1 and port 2. I also heard that they would assign 1 DCO for both hospital and primary care and they would cover a smaller area. I am praying for a new manager, so the idea of a reorg sounds great. It may be the only way I stay with the company. Do you know, if we are having lay-offs in January, do they have to give us 60 days notice, so tell us in November? And what the hell is with the product prioritization email? Arent we already doing that? Or are they going to drop us into 1 of the 3 buckets? Let me know what you have heard.

I have heard from a reliable source that Port 1 & Port 2 will combine bags. Layoffs will take place either in December or January- 30% reduction in reps and 40% reduction in managers.

Then you are saying 3 out of 10 reps will be cut and half the managers will be gone. What about specialty reps?

Oh, come on. This is Merck. Bob McMahon just told us there were no plans for further layoffs. What? You don't believe Bob...or anyone else in Merck management? I can't believe that. It's such a great company. They wouldn't lie to us. I believe everything my CTL tells me. I'd ask some of my old friends here at Merck, but none of them are left. They must all be on vacation.

If the OP is dumb enough to post this question, he should be safe in his job. He is just the kind of dimwit that Merck wants to retain...and ultimately turn into a contract sales rep.

no way...remember that Merck protects their managers like a mother bear her cubs...

At the very least some of them will get rep jobs at their inflated salaries...

Merck loves their middle managers...After all, they sold their souls to do Merck's dirty work.

Maybe the overlay position will be gone???? That would be 3 out of the 10 jobs in my district. Maybe the disease focus position???

One bag reps probably stay with some disease focus tuned all product reps. Think S2 stays in most cases...still think S1 and disease focus without products in worst place.

They lied to the joint venture reps also before they laid them off (oh and also cross-trained them). Agree with previous poster. Layoff and reorg coming. They just need us to be focused to drive revenue. What happens when we fear a layoff? Reps stop working and sales go down. It's funny to see the ones that actually believe that the sales force is going to be okay.

Contract already on specialists and HSAs already on top specialists.

Looks like Pfizer must of changed its mind after telling employees just the opposite.

Think very few DF will remain if any. HSA can handle big guys and CSO pick up smaller specialists. Many CSO reps are part time and want full time. Lots of Merck reps will probably grab a CSO spot if its all thats open....afterall they know the accounts and the products. An easy transition for Mercks revenue stream and no down time. Just hope people have two incomes if they live in high cost of living states in case they lose one or must rely on low salary CSO job. Whole mess is very bad especially for older reps.

So no people from top willing to spill the beans, what is happening with the sales force, I heard they are taking away a lot of our samples and sunshine act in 2013 so is there a use for us after that? If you are smart you are looking for another career! But when is the big question? I still think January or even through march, they always want a good start to the year, so I think they give us the 60 day warning in Jan. And layoffs in March?? Any thoughts.

Maybe...just in time not spend big on a 1S meeting...

If you put it all together, lay offs will be completed by Oct. 31st to be in compliance with the WARN act. We should all know our fates within the next 60 days. Whether you're in sales or in the home office or in R&D, it's a horrible time. The only safe places are the ones in the ivory tower.

Has anyone checked with an attorney on the legality of this change to the separation package with the "re-badging" that has been posted? Seems like this is just another way that they can TRY to get us to "stay focused on what you can change" but in reality, they will give it to us again!!!

And they wonder why they are not seen as the Number One Pharmaceutical company!!!
