Realign

Massive changes are necessary. It can't go on like this. By now, everyone in the home office has been asking what are we paying our reps for? $250,000 a year including car and benefits to maintain status quo?

Well prepare to be sorely disappointed. They won’t cut heads, but more likely expand. Every business and corporation these days has unnecessary costs and positions. Think of all the jobs that now could be automated. But we continue to use old job models so our society doesn’t collapse. We will retire easily in this industry. No different than anywhere else

Don't be so sure. Many Pharma companies are cutting jobs. But Otsuka is especially naive. They would hire someone who costs over $150,000 a year to bring in $15,000 in revenue. Our luck is that we don't have US stock holders!

"Why Medical and Pharma Sales Reps Should Start Their Own Senior Care Business"

Search for this article on CafePharma. It was published October 6, 2023. It gives you options if Otsuka pulls the rug from underneath your feet. or, start it now and keep your Otsuka job. You definitively need a plan and alternatives, at the
very least, you need an income stream.

Greetings from the Uber boy!

It’s not the actual people as Sr HSAs that are terrible, it’s the concept. The company did nothing to make it successful. You put high performers in a position that makes it impossible to do either job well and wonder why performance slips. Then you do not include them in leadership discussions, trainings, meetings, etc. The company put them strictly in a middle man position and made it useless. Good riddance to this position but now where do you think they will go? Most aren’t cut out for leadership and now will be asked to take a demotion. They have been privy to HR type discussions and now will go back to being a peer. This won’t be pretty
I’m going back to the easy life, while still getting paid my Sr HSA salary. Best move I ever made here. Life is good.

Hey uber man, long time fan here. Just wanna say I appreciate your work. Youre an inspiration.

Thanks bro, life is good, as a matter of fact, it is fantastic. Please do not make the mistake by not preparing for the future. There is a huge difference in WANTING to work or HAVING to work!
Create something exciting: Buy a used van and convert it to a mobile pet grooming shop. You can do this on the weekends if you feel guilty grooming dogs during working hours.
I am constantly busy making money. Financial independence is the American dream. I detailed 2 cars today, of course inside and out. $500 CASH!!!! Get's invested of course. If you lose your job at Otsuka and your severance runs out....then what? Just the stress of finding another job is unhealthy for you! And your next boss might be a bigger jerk than the one at Otsuka!!! Anyone at Otsuka will gladly throw you under the bus to save his or her own skin! Nobody needs a college degree to be a drug rep. Apply yourself, use common sense, treat your customers fairly and honestly in your side hustle, and they will take care of you! But get started. You are wasting too many hours of your life dropping samples, asking for signatures and asking probes that have been asked 10 years ago! Good luck to you!

I wish we could get any kind of intelligent discussion on here from people who actually work here. We all know you think we hold no value. Go cry about it elsewhere.

for those of us who actually enjoy working here and want to discuss hypotheticals on what might happen within the next month, I would like to hear it.

senior HSAs will be no longer, I think each current ecosystem will split into three teams. Any other thoughts?
"We all know you think we hold no value"... So what value do you hold, junior? Are you able to define or articulate that, or did you just need to do some typing, unable to substantiate your argument????

It's not that I THINK you hold no value. I KNOW you have no value! As a matter of fact, you have NEGATIVE value!

Let me prove it to you: There are 261 working days in a year. (For calculation purposes we ignore that you only "work" for 156 days, Tuesdays - Thursdays, and even then only 10am-2pm). Your total compensation and cost to the company with benefits, bonus, car, 401K plan, samples and expenses is easily $275,000 - $300,000 a year! That comes out to be $1050 to $1150 a day.
Given the fact that at this stage you don't convince anyone anymore to prescribe more, because prescribers know what they get with Rexulti, you do really nothing else but drop samples. Since most offices have enough samples anyways, you stuff those offices to the hilt, in order to get a signature and "prove" you were working, (more like covering your ass). The cost of mailing these samples instead to offices would cost with handling and packaging perhaps $40 per shipment. So for 2 offices that would be $80 per day, right? Because you cost the company $1150 per day, but saved Otsuka $80 per day dropping off samples, your economic value is $1070 ($1150-$80) but a negative $1070, because Otsuka could have mailed samples and not needed you to obtain the same results. That's what you get when you operate inefficiently, as Otsuka does. Of course thanks to patent protection, Otsuka gets away with that.

Now, you wanna argue with me or dispute that? Go right ahead! You know only too well how that will end!

To the above poster. Of course you are right in what you said. I will leave one box to prove I was there even though they don’t need it. Is that bad business? Of course it is! But to keep the bean counters happy thats what you have to do. Do we actually SELL anymore? Everyone knows that what we do is marketing, not selling. Rexulti is just another me too in a landscape of many other me-toos. We use our paid whores to pump it to the other paid whores who attend our speaker programs. It’s all just one big game. But, you have to play it to survive. If they company could do it any other way without us, they would have done it decades ago.

No one pharma company has ever been able to market their drugs without sales reps. Not one! Not one company can come up with a plan that doesn’t include us. WE HAVE A LOT MORE POWER THAN WE THINK! Our biggest threat is AI. This is a real threat! Fortunately. I will be retired before it really starts to make an impact on us, but the vast majority of reps will need to reinvent themselves. The future for reps and anyone connected with “sales” is bleak.

Thank you for your post.I agree with you. With the exception of a few psychiatry offices, all of my targets are closed to reps because of policies by the group clinics and conglomerates that set policies for reps. It's a nationwide trend. I can do my "territory" in half a day max. My DM knows it, works with me never more than half a day due to "teleconferences" and other "work", but has no clue that I drive for Uber/Lyft.

While it is absolutely true what you say about drug companies being unable to launch a new drug without reps, it is also true that we have way too many drug pimps. Other territories have the same access issues I have, so why not have fewer reps covering more geography?

All these costs are now build into the price of the drug, driving up healthcare costs. No matter how you look at it, it is a racketeer game. And on top of it, for a drug that is not any more effective than Abilify, has fewer indications and costs 20-30 times more!

When I was at BMS I once asked the product manager why are we raising prices every 6 months for Abilify. Answer:
"Because the competition is doing the same".

Great reason, isn't it?

So, should I feel guilty milking Otsuka?

Anyways, I am going back to bed. It's going to be a beautiful day and I really don't need the frustration of banging my head against some Drs. door with absolutely nothing of value to convey to my customer.

And lastly: I have made so much money of my side gigs that I could live easily 3 years of my earnings and not worry about a darn thing.

I am still at home. Just can't get myself motivated to do this boring job anymore and listen to all the BS from my DM and the Home Office.
But, I started an another side hustle: Mobile Car Detailing. I bought a shop vac, and cleaning supplies and drive (using company SUV of course) to people's homes to detail their vehicle. I do this Saturdays and Sundays when I want a break from the driving for Uber/Lyft routine.
I highly recommend it. You make some friends and get referrals. I charge a flat $250 fee. It takes about 5 hours to do a very thorough cleaning job, including travel to the customer. On one Saturday, I actually did two cars.

Here is what I do:
1.) Wash car and apply a "ceramic" coat to the paint.
2.) Clean all windows inside and out, and apply a rain repellant to windshield.
3.) Clean the entire inside thoroughly and spray air freshener
4.) Refill window washer fluid and sharpen wiper blades.
5.) Check tire pressure and inflate as necessary with little air compressor.
6.) Spray tires with tire foam

Not a job for the winter to do this in people's driveway. But great for April - September, depending on where you live. In Florida you could do it year round.

I hand out a card for my services to anyone riding in my car while doing Uber/ Lyft, and also did some advertising in the local paper which has been very effective. Bought some magnetic signs for the car with phone number, and of course the internet. Our neighborhood has a website and I posted there as well.

It's easy and you make many new connections as well.

Try it. Otsuka doesn't seem to mind...

We had massive inflation. Prepare for the future. Nobody at Otsuka cares what you did for the company yesterday. Most companies in Pharma have reduced their salesforce or are thinking about it. Otsuka operates like it's the 60's and 70's...

I am going back to bed....
