Promote within

Yes, other companies have laid off experienced people, but don't forget about the people who have been here in the trenches. I seem to remember "loads of opportunity" being said in our last three meetings. Put your money where your mouth is management - invest your time and money in the capable, willing people that have earned their way.

Disagree completely. I can recall at least 10 different promotions from either current reps or current managers to a "next level" position. Company has done a fine job of hiring, developing and promoting talent.

I think the original poster is saying that although the company may be doing an ok job promoting people, Teva is becoming a gigantic company with many avenues for people's careers. Let's just hope that Teva is on their game with programs that will educate and propel their employees to prosper in their careers inside of Teva - which includes all branded divisions as well as the generic side of our business.

Instead of worrying about being promoted how about worrng about developing the skills needed to handle a promotional opportunity. As far as the West goes, numerous individuals have interviewed for promotional opportunities and they have been embarrassingly unprepared and unqualified.

Working for a company for a number of years does not in and of Itself give you the right to be promoted or for that fact to even be interviewed.

SO TRUE. EVERYONE WANTS IT GIVEN TO THEM AS OPPOSED TO GOING OUT AND WORKING AND PREPARING FOR IT.

Here is an idea, how about YOU initiating your Own development plan instead of WAITING AROUND for the company to GIVE you a development program. PROPEL YOURSELF! EDUCATE YOURSELF! CREATE YOUR OWN OPPORTUNITIES. EVERY DEVELOPMENTAL OPPORTUNITY I HAVE HAD, I HAVE NEVER BEEN GIVEN. I HAVE CREATED THEM MYSELF AND PRESENTED THEM TO MY SUPERVISORS.

That would be too hard and require work. I would rather it be given to me.

Get off it. I bet you also walked to school up hill both ways in the snow. Stop twisting the comments. Most fortune 500 companies have extremely good developmental programs that employees enjoy very much that ultimately make both the company and the individuals stronger in the long run.

I just got done reading the comments above and can't see where the comments were twisted. THEY just restated exactly what the comments were. Btw, Teva DOES have development programs including Regional trainers and management development not to mention all the courses you can personally sign up for. Just a quick question, how many online CMR courses have you completed? Yeah that's what I thought, NONE! Why not try taking advantage of the resources that are in place NOW before whining about what you don't have !

You were doing fine until you brought up CMR courses. If you really think that CMR is going to help you move up the ladder then I question how many you have taken. We were required to do these at a previous company and although a few of them were informative, the lions share are not applicable to promotion (or even field sales). Most courses are muddled in minutia and offer no real value except to those that sell it to the pharmaceutical companies.

LOL! MORE EXCUSES! MORE WOE IS ME! MORE MY MOMMY DIDNT HUG ME ENOUGH! LIFE TO SO UNFAIR! TEVA wont GIVE me a promotion!

Yeah keep going over ALL the reasons you are DENIED the opportunities. Im still WAITING for some thoughts on how you can OVERCOME these MINOR things.

GREAT INITIATIVE!

LOL

people like this post is the reson why there are sooo many unqualified managers in this industry. hey, ive been with this company for 10 years so that qualifies me over someone outside the company for the job. Clueless!

So are you saying that if someone takes CMR classes, that is what will make great managers??? What does the post you quote have to do with "been with the company for 10 years"? I am not taking sides on whether Teva should hire from within or not, that call has to be made based on each need/situation. My point is that CMR courses have little or nothing to do with making you a better candidate for management.

The CMR is like any other certification. It keeps you in the running for advancement.
Two people with similar qualifications; one with CMR one without. It's a good way
to eliminate candidates. Who went the extra mile? Who played the game better?
Your industry is not just day to day selling. It is what knowledge you
bring to make an organization better.

It's always funny to see the twists and turns off the original post. One person thinks someone is whinning, another thinks CMR courses are the ticket into the big leagues, and someone thinks the original poster was asking to be promoted for doing nothing... Take a chill pill people. I think the OP has a point when they say keep the people that have been building this company for years in mind when opportunities instead of looking outside the company. This place is changing rapidly, and with the integration of Cephalon there will be plenty of changing of guards, but let's hope the shiny resumes of failing organizations don't woo them into thinking outside candidates are superior to those in front them now.

Agreed. Hiring from within should not be mandatory by any means, but should weigh heavily in the process.
