Well, if you must suffer through a disaster, just make sure you live in a strong dem area.
The latest news is that FEMA has frozen spending including funds promised to the south and midwest for tornado damage. In Joplin, this includes funding to rebuild 4 public schools destroyed in the tornado. Promises and commitments were made, construction contracts began, and then FEMA pulled the rug out from under them. Why? So they could give the money to the east coast, a liberal strong hold. There is little national interest in the fungal infections that killed multiple people after the storm, caused by the sheer force of winds literally pushing soil fungi into the skins of people, causing systemic infections and death. An airborne variety is expected to continue to cause problems with infections to lungs, sinuses and eyes as the fungus was pushed into remaining building structures.
This insult is compounded by the fact the Army Corps of Engineers, completely mismanaging water flow, released so much water that it has flooded over 500,000 acres in seven midwest states. Many were only given 2 or 3 days notice the floods were coming. Levee breaks and failures were common place. The worst flooding began in June but disaster relief stations were not opened until August. Major interstates have been closed for three months now, and home and farmland damage is extreme. Depending on the area and source of information, water is expected to remain high for a few weeks to a couple months . What do you think will be left of a home or road after three to five months under water? Or farmland buried in sand? Many are still displaced from their homes but this doesn't even get mention in the evening news. And good luck getting help from FEMA since these are red states and the disaster was caused by the government. Those who disdain Bush should note Obama has not visited the area and even on his bus campaign tour, made no mention of the disaster.
Federally controlled programs continue to be a disaster and heaven help you if you have to deal with them. Of course no one in the midwest is looting or shooting people, so it will never make the headlines like Katrina. But the midwest knows who is supposed to be leading Congress and the Corps. They will not be forgotten or forgiven.
