Poll: Best ADs and Worst ADs

There are none left, they fired all of them!
Dan is ok, not much of a thought leader, must have done something wrong not to be an AD after being here forever.

Dan didn’t do anything wrong. He is a dinosaur, the last of a near extinct breed; a man of his word and fair. Not much of that going around here. He doesn’t kiss ass. He’s only got a few years left and he’s done, just riding it out.

CR only had one account, MDA. Built career on one hospital. Zero leadership ability. Diversity hire.

I usually wont call out people by name, or even initials here, but Dan is a man of character, strength and high talent. He's too good and too smart to get into the political fray of the AD level. I admire his smarts and courage to stick it out and 'do the right thing,'

I ultimately agree to the statement above. But I see this to be more of a top level issue in the development and “grooming” of management/leadership, not merely a representation of all RBDs being inadequate or incompetent. (Though some are, 2 or 3 are complete duds) One poster asked “are there any RBDs with previous management experience”? First, the answer is yes, but only 1 or 2. But in being as objective as possible, would you rather be with an organization where they purely outsource all management/leadership roles? Or be with one that organically promotes from within? I think most like the idea of organic development, could be wrong.

But I’ve been with big and small companies and the “buddy system” with regards to promotions into leadership/management is nothing solely attached or unique to Pacira. And with that buddy system you get the good and the bad. But the difference in other organizations is they develop said good or bad promotes to be functional at least, to good/great leaders.

I don’t love my RBD, I don’t particularly believe he’s the brightest guy. But I also know the organization has done very little to develop him into a functional manager. So as an org if you don’t groom or develop your leaders. How can you expect them to be successful and be value adds to their direct reports? Kinda a rant sorry...

The bottom line, no company is perfect or it's people, however, the question is do we have leaders or not?

I believe what people are trying to express in this forum is that currently, pacira has no leaders. Like Stalin, the leadership has been purged so many times that only the yes people and conformists have survived. Innovation and approaching challenges in a different ways have been removed and everyone is fighting for daddies approval and attention.

Also, stack is not a leader. stack has a tract record of using people, pitting them against one anther and exhibiting behavior that is never allowed in the work place much like the former CEO of McDonald's.

When you compare the brain trust of Denny, Glen and Vaughn (it's kind of funny to have those 3 names in the same sentence with brain trust) to other companies like Stryker, Medtronic, Intuitive you realize Moe, Shemp & Curly are providing what "good" looks like. Funny, I do not know why we always compare ourselves to real medical device companies, we are a pharma, we detail and are meals on heels.

Net-Net, for all of you grandstand quarterbacks providing your analyses on why the RBD's suck, you only have to look at Dumb and Dumber and Mr. It's Not about me Denny and you have all of your answers......Of course it starts and ends with stack.

I have to agree, Dan is the best of what is left of the old guard and is too close to retirement to mess that up. He has seen too many managers that get "gone" when they stood by their people, fought for pay increases and did not fire people when the AD's and VP of Sales did not like them. Perhaps not stirring the pot, keeping your head down and not challenging the status quo is the way to go-
