Please eliminate rank reports for MS

Everyone here is competitive. The only way external candidates were hired was because of proven success. Hopefully leadership will realize the disparity among territories. Earlier they stated they understood this, now a ranking report? Obviously they don't understand it. Hopefully they will continue with a National & District component, because it will be totally unfair to financially hurt those that drew the short straw in regards to territories, while those that got major MS Centers have a built in success factor and are being financialky rewarded for business they had very little to do with generating.

YOU STATED THIS PERFECTLY! This is exactly what is happening. The only thing I would add is that individuals that received terrible territories didn't draw the straw. Certain managers have their obvious favorites and they received the territories with the best potential. Yes, it's that obvious. Coincidentally, these individuals will be subsequently promoted. Many of this was decided long ago.
I've been in the industry for over 25 years and have never seen anything like this before. Such an obvious disparity as you put it. It's truly sick. Yes, there is a huge disparity in the bonuses, but more importantly people are concerned about job security. How can you hire high performing individuals and give them nothing to work with? Absolutely unforgivable. There is no other division that has this kind of territory unfairness. And before anyone that wants to make a crack at this comment, we all have families to support and need job security. So what? People are supposed to stand up and clap for someone that was gifted a great territory and doesn't work any harder or smarter? This is absolutely ridiculous. There needs to be a realignment and the sooner the better. In the meantime, drop the rank report senior management. NOT COOL. You know the territories weren't carved out fairly and this is a ridiculous measurement of performance. If the territory assignments don't change, then they need to go to an MBO measurement. You want to have a rank report? Then carve out territories that are fair and give everyone potential.
Also, there is something inherently wrong with this culture. Everyone here has a tremendous need to constantly blow their own horn and do whatever it takes to kiss up to people like Amy. The same kiss-ups constantly have to make the most ridiculous and often dumb comments on conference calls just so they can make their voices heard and put in the spotlight. This culture breeds insincere suck-ups.

Oh now, let's not be sour grapes. Thall shal not covet ones neighbor. You were picked for the job because you said in your interview that you could sell and you had a successful track record to prove it. Was that a lie?
Now get out there and show us what you are made of. We are watching you and the ranking reports. If you'll scroll down to the thread that says HUGE HEAD COUNTS COMING, you'll know that there are others who would love your job. They might be a little more hungry than you. Do you have what it takes? We don't pay high salaries and best of class perks to hear excuses. Quit your whining. No excuses.

You're an idiot. You can't sell drug when all of your targets don't even treat MS. That's a fact.

Welcome to Genentech boys and girls. Working here is like the hunger games. Time to start thinking like Amy or your going to get pip'd out of here.

This is breeding one of the worst cultures. I came here for the "culture," and don't have any idea what they were talking about. Hard work is not rewarded and actually discouraged...kissing up is the only way to get ahead. It's awful. I can't wait to get out of here (and, yes, I know there are plenty of people that want the job...you can have it).

That rank report is going to determine who stays and who goes. Forced ranking is what all successful organizations do- the snowflakes we have hired are in for a rude awakening.

its like that anywhere you go. And if you think its better someplace else- leave. We have plenty of internal people that will easily take over your job come January.

I guess you haven't read everyone's comments on here and simply don't have a brain cell. Many companies no longer do rank reports and are now going to the MBO system, such as GSK. You are the same pathetic person leaving the same ole posts. Calling someone a snowflake tells a lot about your character. You wouldn't feel that way if you were put in a territory that doesn't have the market potential in the first place.

They need to stop this stack ranking here.

haha reading this thread...anyone who reads this stuff will leave with the same opinion...our MS team is a bunch of cry babies. Pull your skirts up and roll up your sleeves...you cry babies get paid a lot of money figure it out

Forced ranking has been the scourge of Genentech for several years in all franchises. It's unfair and will probably lead to a lawsuit at some point. Even if a division consists of excellent CSs, someone is forced to take a lower ranking to 'fit' the self-imposed bell curve. And Heaven help you if your manager is not willing to fight for you....guess who gets the lower ranking? This system will outlive its usefulness at some point but how many careers need to be affected and morale devastated. Herb and Bob would not know this place. Art wouldn't either. Such a shame - DNA used to be the envy of the industry. Now, we're just Big Pharma in decline. Get out while you can.

Couldn't agree more, this has completely changed the culture here. When Jack Welch led GE, forced ranking was all the rage and those in the bottom 10% were shown the door. Here, they just make your life miserable enough that you have to leave, regardless of the underlying causes for being in the crapper.

And Jack Welch has since recanted his folly....

The individual territories were unfairly created and this unit has the most inconsistency in terms equal opportunity for the sales reps than anywhere else. Some territories have the mother load of potential whereas others have zero. This alone needs to be changed but then to add a rank report to this division is just wrong. This is a situation where you have exceptional reps with territories that have no potential and then also are publicly humiliated with a rank report that lists everyone's names? We were told this would never happen as it is very obvious there is a huge imbalance in territory potential. Some people just got lucky for the territories they have, not because they are better reps or working harder. Please take the rank report down and realign the territories so it is fair for everyone.

Public humiliations? Toughen up snowflake. Don't like it, go into marketing

Time and time again we see idiots like you leaving the above comment. You're probably one that got gifted a great territory and justifying in your head how great you are when in reality it has nothing to do with you. Morons like you are a dime a dozen and have as much substance as a rock. Someone made a comment on another post and I couldn't agree more. Karma will hit you in the ass soon. You're a mean and ugly person. You are the type with no ounce of morals that would somehow think the territories were divided fairly. Don't let the door hit you on the ass idiot.
