I personally didn’t hate my previous company. In fact, I enjoyed working there but literally was wooed to come over and I admit I fell for it hook, line, and sinker. This has been the most toxic environment I have ever worked for. I can honestly tell you that I have never worked with so many egomaniacs in all my life. How about just doing your damn job? So sick of all these people trying to claw their way to the top and grabbing every committee opportunity before anyone even has a chance to apply. So sick of these types making the private meetings with upper management. Your hard work and intgrity should speak for itself yet it doesn’t seem to apply here. They encourage this blatant activity whereas other companies would see right through it. So very sad.

You must be lower ranked and on a performance plan.

As a veteran Genentecher, (and not part of the Ocre business unit), I agree that GNE is hitting the skids. However, I have never witnessed this type of behavior from Sr. management when starting a new franchise. NEVER! This comes from excluding GNE people in key leadership positions in favor of Biogen, (known for their toxic culture), and other outsiders. Many were shocked at how the Ocre franchise was being developed and staffed. Again, good GNE management leaders weren't even allowed to interview. A real shame and just when GNE needed a strong, new franchise with a great drug. Are you listening Danny and Sev? U.S. leadership needs transformation!
 












This has been the worst back-stabbing culture I have ever been a part of. However, Access Solutions was such a dismal failure that it proved him correct.

It was a failure because CS's with zero freaking B&B experience were selling like this a Part D drug. MS isn't unique. Its exactly like RA and other therapies where injectables and infusions are competing for marketshare.Your refusal to understand B&B led to many of the issues.
Access Solutions model not changed for any other drug except the "unique" MS market. Horseshit.
 






I’m sick of those leaving negative comments about the innocent employees that are about to be laid off. This isn’t their fault! This has been an excellent launch and everyone did a great job. Whoever wants to trash these victims has real psychological issues. The bottom line is Genentech has treated everyone is such an unforgivable manner. If there was a culture, it’s clearly gone now. The foundation of a good company are it’s employees and they simply don’t be get that. This is a fake ass ruthless company. I guarantee if any of the new employees saw this coming, no one would have come onboard here. You can keep trashing the employees, but they hired the top best talent with PROVEN DOCUMENTED SALES SUCCESS. We all left very good jobs to come here. I certainly would never have made a jump for two years. Every single interview promised THIS IS THE LAST JOB YOU WILL HAVE BEFIRE RETIREMENT. I can’t tell you how many times that was crammed down my throat. If people want to up the stakes and go for a risky yet high yielding opportunity you go with a new launching biotech company where you work hard and win big with massive stock options and bonuses. So all you naysayers out there, you can cram this message up you fat asses.
 












There is basically a thread per each MS rep that will be impacted so to be honest, it's getting pretty ridiculous in the face of the many marketers and other sales/internal cuts that have and are being made as part of Transformation. I have empathy for anyone losing a job but for those that have been part of the company for only a couple of years, I frankly don't believe you have the experience or context to call the overall culture toxic, etc. What I'm seeing is a company facing a period of uncertainty with biosimilars and an unexciting near-term pipeline. Cuts do have to be made and downsizing a franchise from the launch team size is always part of normal lifecycle management (albeit less common at Genentech).

I do agree with the terrible decisions that were made as they built the franchise. Christy Oliger forced the team to hire more reps, despite what the sales forecast team and marketing leadership team had originally suggested. They didn't hire the 200+ that Christy had suggested but it's clear that they probably over shot. That said, it was an important launch so I'm sure almost any executive would rather err on the side of hiring too many, than too few. The other real miss was that Christy led a highly thought of leader into thinking he was the future franchise head for Ocre but than changed her mind and went with AVB, whom previously really only cut her teeth on franchises like Pegasys... anyone think that should be the stepping stone to the most important launch for the company? The other candidate that was not selected is now the CEO of another Bay Area up and coming company, by the way.

And while I have nothing against the folks that came over from other companies, I do agree that Genentech has a tendency to not integrate external hires from other Pharma well and often don't set them up for success. All the comments around favoritism, etc. as part of the culture are definitely based on fact.

I hope everyone who gets displaced finds happiness in a new role. It is a shame what's happening.

SLT needs to understand they just cut the legs out from under this franchise. It will never fully recover or rise to the level it could have achieved. All because of unethical behavior. Shame on the leadership team. Like others on this thread I am in a totally different franchise but have watched this disgraceful scene from the start. Very unprofessional and an embarrassment to GNE. Not what Bob & Herb envisioned. Do you even know who those people are? Not just 2 bronze statues.

Well said. Don't recognize this company anymore and it's very sad. It's been a great ride but the train has derailed. Already had several interviews and just waiting for the right offer. No need to stay around and watch the demise any longer. RIP DNA.

Bob & Herb's vision has been RIP for quite some time. Glad I left, (after 18 years), and hope others will make the leap, too. It's just not worth all the heartache and, contrary to the GNE Koolaid, there are other fine companies out here.
