Pharma Reps Don’t Work

I’m fairly young and still new(ish) to the industry. It cracks me up how many offices I walk in a day and very rarely do I ever run into reps from other companies. Don’t get me wrong, I do see a few here and there - but it’s far and few between.

I suppose I’m still early enough into it to believe I should be out working to “move the needle” in my territory, but it’s becoming more apparent everyday that people in this industry don’t work much and it doesn’t change their performance outcome. That’s hilarious.

That's why this is the greatest gig in the world. You mentioned you're fairly new to this game, but that's ok young grasshopper. Soon enough in time you will be playing your part in this bogus profession with the huge misconception that we are actually sales people. In time you too will fall in the ranks of making fake calls, delivering food and snacks to self entitled overeating nurses and staff, starting your day at 11 a.m. and ending it at 2 p,m. just so you can hit the gym, golf course or get in a little shopping. Oh and since it appears you are working in Big Pharma with way too many reps covering your territory, spouting off about the same old crap and flooding offices with samples, your next test will be how well you keep your resume updated, since you'll be interviewing every few years due to layoffs. Yes, that's how we roll.

This is specifically why no one hires drug reps after they have been doing this longer than 3-5 years. Too many examples of reps being hired, because they look and sound professional, but have zero work ethic. Therefore can't hack it! Yes you make ok money for a part time gig pretending to be full time, but if you work hard for say Medtronic, Stryker, J&J Synthese, you make triple maybe quadruple what you get slinging kung po chicken and bagels. Of curse you could be smart enough to purchase your own distributorship and make 20x's what a drug rep makes. Pull down >$100K per month. Drug repping is a job you do until you find a real career, otherwise stay too long and you doom yourself to mediocrity forever.

Make double working at Stryker and miss my kids after school activities? I take my kids to school in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. I’m content with my salary and dropping off bagels. Life is too short to focus more on your career than life. I won’t look back in 25 years and regret being there for my children. Go make your money and apologize to your daughter for not being there for her Christmas play.

I love when primary care reps post self deprecating stuff like this. Hilarious

Then the day comes when your kid sees that name tag and knows deep down, Dad is a fuc5ing loser.

I worked a lot of years for Beecham/GSK as a field rep.
I worked long hours.
Did my best.
Loved relationships with my customers and most colleagues.
As the years evolved, Gsk got worse.
Glad I retired.

Incorrect, they do work - try a different tact; also, consider and then probably ignore the dribbling swine you find on here...

We should all be honest with ourselves and confess in public that we only “work” a few hours per day, add on restaurant gift certificates to lunch orders, add a gallon or two to fill up gas containers for our lawn mowers, etc. We are all thieves, and we don’t care. I am so corrupt that sometimes even I can’t believe it. I no longer can help myself. It’s just the way that I am. The industry is totally occupied by sales reps like me. It’s endemic in the industry. At least I admit my sins and thievery.

Come clean and confess your sins openly my sons and daughters!

You missed the hey day before sample accountability, and gps tracking capabilities. You could sell your samples to mom and pop pharmacies, it was great back then, made tons of money! More than skb, glaxo would ever pay. Tax free.

My FLL has told a few on our team to look for work with another company. He said he was doing us a favor because we are good performing reps and he feels we need to work for a company that has stronger foundational metrics and pillars. He said he would give strong recommendations to potential employers. Seems so odd. It seems as though he is well respected by second line leadership and our team usually is in the top 25% over past few years. Has anyone else had a situations like this?
