Pfizer to Purchase Amgen 2/2012

Wrong. It's in the works buddy. Just you wait.

And, if Pfizer isn't interested, or the deal falls through GSK is also very interested as it owns rights to Dmab outside US and has been putting out 'feelers' to AMG board of directors for a couple of weeks now.
By the end of 2012, Amgen may still be Amgen but it it will be owned by BIG PHARMA.

There is no way in hell anyone would be dumb enough to buy Amgen. KS has saddled the company with so much debt, no company could handle it. Also, Amgen makes $0.18 per dollar sale of Enbrel. Amgen would need to sell 80 billion dollars worth of Enbrel to just break even on that purchase. That will NEVER happen, just like Pfizer will NEVER buy Amgen.

You did know Amgen gets all the rights back in 18 months, I am sure you forgot. They also just got a patent extension for another 17 years. So Enbrel itself is fine, rest of this market will still be a challenge.

This rumor comes up EVERY year. We'll see.

Don't think so?
Pfizer loss of Lipitor patent 12 billion a year plus loss of Enbrel co-promote money equaling loss of 13 billion a year. See's that it must take action to replace loss in revenue and views Amgen as the perfect, PERFECT opportunity now with Enbrel news.
Pfizer learns of (or had part in) new Enbrel patent extension equaling close to 60 billion dollars in additional Enbrel money. Just one product. Over the next 17 years.
Pfizer quickly to divest or sell off new RA drug in favor of taking proven product like Enbrel with massive guaranteed revenue stream.
Home office will talk good game about how they hate Pfizer.
Board of directors and all senior management will push like hell to get deal done and ride off into sunset with millions.

Haven't you noticed that big pharmas are no longer buying other big pharmas? If you read some Wall Street financial resarch you would know that they conclude there is no shareholder value in this strategy which is why both Pfizer and Merck have not moved their stock one inch after their SP and Wyeth acquisitions. Getting bigger is no longer an advantage in this industry as competition is coming from innovative smaller companies with targeted research and expertise. Big M&A does not work in pharma and the premium paid is not worth it.

Owns Dmab in PMO, wrong indication to leverage. GSK may be a buyer but not forthe reasons stated. Why do you think that put Bradway as President. He's a wall street transacation dude...

Pfizer won't for one simple reason, tofacintinib. They will compete in the RA market in about a year and will have to let go of etanercept anyway because of that. If they bought Amgen would be competing against themselves. While the ESA and other stim products have some value they don't make the company attractive enough to buy plus there is an empty pipeline at the big A and they need future products.

I talked to Bob yesterday about this rumor--he laughed and said "That is typical of the folks on Cafe Pharma---where you heard this rumor right? That place is full of losers, wannabes, and trolls. I suggest you spend your time working on useful, productive things in your life because if there is one thing that is ruining it for everyone, its blogging on the internet with a bunch of r*****s"

So your response is to "blog on the internet with a bunch of r*****s"?

The hard truth to this is really how much it makes sense. This would be the smartest thing Pfizer could ever do. They would complete the "Mega deal" of the year and PFE would be on cruise control for the next 10 years with cash coming in regularly. They have the sales force to integrate Prolia and Enbrel with and the corporate structure to convert easily. This would be a win/win for everyone and could finally propel AMG to the promise land.

Well, well PFE just announced that they will do a big stock buy back and dividend increase for like $10B at a time when their sales will go down because of Lipitor LOE. Sounds like they just found another use for their loose cash than buy AMG. They also announced they prefer organic growth in the future and becoming a smaller more focused company away from the big pharma model. Not that pharma companies don't lie but when Kindler was Mr M&A PFE was very clear in stating their acquisition strategy. So unless they lie in the current corporate report to WS it seems the direction is different than what you guys predict. Not much M&A in pharma or any other industry for that matter. They all just do higher dividends and stock buyback with their free cash; there is little shareholder value in synergy, only fees for the investment bankers.

Yes, posters on here are like bomb droppers and arsonists. Light and match and watch the flames burn Pfizer buying Amgen? Come on people, be original and look for facts like above!

Regardless of a RIF in 2012 or PFE buying AMGN, most people don't care much at Amgen anymore. Most staff are there to do a job and then go home, the culture is gone. The cheer leading about serving patients is pretty much for the brochures for new staff, which there are few, except for new VPs and Directors. In actual practice, every company exists to make money. If they don't make money, they go out of business and many people lose out including employees. Every company must from time to time make adjustments to their strategy to adapt. Industry is also shifting the risk venture capitalists who invest in small biotech and start-ups. Once they have something in Phase 1 or 2 then big pharma buys them out. Pharma is good at bringing to market so that's what they'll do. Pharma is too bureaucratic and slow to do early discovery. Changes are on the way if for nothing else due to the fact that nothing lasts forever.
