Petition for Manager Role Plays

Yes. Then they will be better trained. Why would they not participate is the same training as reps.

Better trained for what? You all are complaining like somehow you are an equal to a manager and you're not. Sh*t rolls downhill, not the other way around. You don't like your manager? Go find a new job if your talent is that good.

Don't get too worked up. I think you misunderstood what people are saying. First, Managers are barely above reps and make maybe an extra 10% a year. Most years they make less than their best reps. Lets be honest, do a little a corporate BS and its not hard to get promoted.

Most Managers are great as are reps. The point was why arent they sharpening their skillsets. You are making it sound like reps are having to do all this extra stuff as "Punishment." If that is the case then we are in for a world of trouble with that kind of leadership. However, If you believe its for development, then why would Managers not want to develop as well. They have customer interactions still.

If you are a WM you need to be interviewing now. Ethicon is going to make cuts, and I don’t care how good you are at your job or how long you have been there, race and gender will decide who gets the position. Johnson & Johnson is an openly discriminating company and the WM is the target

control your exit on your terms, because once they “displace” you, you no longer matter and you are now going up against all the other laid off WM’s and everyone else

JNJ is a shitty company to work for

The struggle bus is ready to make It’s first stop. Better polish up those interviewing skills

If we get shut down again with another Covid spike, my hope is that ETHICON will not leave any flexibility to RSM’s about how the down time should be used. Last time, FSO had excessive and repetitive training on every product and category. It would be so nice the see the credo in action and do whatever we can to help in this pandemic. Community service, taking care of neighbors, family , friends, church involvement? I believe we just missed the mark last time and took the easy way and filled the time with summit and zooms. On top of that you had RSM’s trying to look good and capitalizing by adding even more activities.

we can do better!

You don’t do anything...if you’re so concerned about taking care of people, what’s stopping you from doing it the 23 hours a day you aren’t earning your paycheck

Let's hope. The time spent training during the shutdown was for sure too much. I agree with everything you said except for the RSM comment. Mine is so good thankfully. But, I did hear some crazy stories and yes the bad ones are always looking for a way to one up their fellow RSM's and its all at the reps expense. A MUCH shortened training session in which managers are the participants and the reps get to listen and absorb different perspectives would be interesting.

The training here has been disappointing. I came from an industry and company that is known for having some of the best sales training that exists. A lot of focus was put into the technical side and having that knowledge about your product was expected. I was shocked when I joined Ethicon and saw that less time was spent teaching and more time was spent breaking out and listening to other reps. That is not done in other industries.

I have had a similar experience in other sales roles even in the med device space. The training I thought was much more effective because the focus and time was on knowing your backwards and forwards. Engineers, marketing, surgeons, were used heavily. I am not sure why its different here because Ethicon has so many products across all specialties.

Sometimes you wonder who is running the show in training. Starts out ok but then a lot of wasted time doing peer to peer activities. Maybe its to fill time? I want an expert to train me and conjecture from another rep is useless.

No one is really focused on doing their "manager" job which is to "lead people". They are all kissing ass and trying to one-up each other and move on. Leslie and Nef don't care about talent development because they are probably working to land their own next roles (>2 years in role now, history shows its time for them to move on). Managers need better "People development" skills, not just sales competency.

Signed. Why would they not participate? My manager has lots of interaction with customers. What do you think they are talking about?! Blows my mind that they don't practice AT ALL?!

However, I believe the whole exercise of role play is a time waster. If you have 10 reps and 1 rsm on a team, how many cumulative hours are spent to practice a role play? 20, 40 60? Get out and sell and stop wasting time checking the box. Real sales people don't sit around pretending to re enact some fake sales situation.

Rsm’s don’t really have much interaction anymore with customers due to Covid and probably won’t be for a long time. Exposing patients and employees with any un necessary interactions is playing Russian roulette. If you have a manger that insists, take note of the day, time, and other details.
I don’t have much to offer about the role play stuff other than to say if you are doing these you are probably a weak minded salesperson and tend to be a sheep. These things don’t work and lack creativity.
