Patterson Dental

I am not sure what you mean by "real world" being that this never happened at my branch. Our employees are very happy and dont have these types of issues. Patterson is a decentralized company which means each branch is run as its own business. To speak about Patterson as a whole is wrong, to speak about a specific branch or manager is very understandable.

Patterson is a great company to work for, always has been since 1877.

hey jackass how can you say patterson is a great company to work for, while in the two sentences prior you say how decentralized they are and each branch is different.

Perhaps his branch is a great branch to work for since ---- (or whenever he got his job). Cant blame the guy for being happy or drinking the koolaid if it works out for him. However that still does not cover up a lot of the problems that come along with working for that company in the position of rookie rep. Its going to be interesting when the old vets (there are a lot of them) all retire and their accounts will be given to whoever is left. Are the rookies willing to stick around that long to finally get some crumbs...or does one just keep sucking up and hope for that elusive Cerec phone lead that the branch manager tosses you if you are a good boy.

Wait around for an elusive CEREC phone lead??? why would you wait around for a lead? You should be out prospecting, not waiting around. I am a "rookie rep" and at my branch the oldest veteran rep is 39 years old...dont think he is retiring anytime soon. If you are hired by Patterson (or any company for that matter)and you sit around waiting for something to be handed to you, YOU WILL FAIL!

I was handed a scratch territory and I have built it into a solid territory with increasing sales every month. If you do the work that is expected of you, you will find a great career at Patterson Dental.

hey assface, being decentralized is the great thing about working for patterson dental. you know what else is great??? not having a non-compete. if a patterson employee is unhappy with patterson and wishes to work for a competitor, they are more than welcome to. If you dont want to work for patterson, then we dont want you. go try that at another major dental dealer!

"wait?" who said anything about waiting around? keep talking blah blah blah etc. etc etc.

"all retire and their accounts will be given to whoever is left. Are the rookies willing to stick around that long to finally get some crumbs...or does one just keep sucking up and hope for that elusive Cerec phone lead that the branch manager tosses you if you are a good boy."

this earlier statement would indicate "waiting around" for something to be handed to you as oppose to going out and building your own business.

Am interviewing soon for a CEREC position. Have heard plenty of talk on this board about the distributor rep position but what's the scoop on the CEREC position?

the question is:

what area of the country are you in and how many CEREC reps are in your branch?

The CEREC position is a great job for the right person. You work hand and hand with the territory reps in your branch to close CEREC deals. It could be very lucrative or you could be over your head. It all depends on how comfortable you are with technology and how comfortable you are with selling $120k machine.

I have been in sales for over 20 years. I have been with companies where I loved the job and was very successful. At the same time, there were 17 other reps who failed miserably doing the same thing. All that tells me is “what is good for one person is not always good for another”.

Just heard at a dental meeting that Patterson Dental laid off 17 people in Atlanta. I believe the source was credible. Any word on what other branches this will effect????? I know their stock is really low. In the low 20s. Let me konw what you guys have heard. Thanks

LET'S NOT FORGET THEIR IQ/PERSONALITY TEST> THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO REQUIRE THESE TESTS WHEN THEY'RE PAYING PEANUTS.

I work for Patterson, aced the IQ test and I'm a former pharma rep, 20 years in outside sales total. Patterson has said that the quality of sales reps has risen dramatically since they have started using Valtera testing. The hope is to weed out the less sophisticated people going forward. They want a more educated and professional sales force.

As far as the base, mine is in the 60s, not 30s

I drive an older car and still get my auto allowance plus mileage.

I am not a math whiz but I am good and my job and with my customers...I got so fed up I just started guessing. It was hard! And the situational questions were a joke!

If the math questions were hard for you, then this most likely is not the right position. The questions were having you figure out such things as margin or rankings. This is something you may want to be able to do.

This is the only good post I have read on here yet that is even worth reading. We make our own destiny, not wait around for what comes to us.

I have reservations about this industry. A friend of mine just got fired from a top company. Here is what happened, the manager had an inside sales guy on salary and he wanted to promote him/get him off the books.....)

This is exactly what happened to me & I understand it happens a lot. I didn't believe it until it happened to me, but now I have a new job with a distributor with ethics.
