P4 August 2011 Layoffs

Does anyone think that because the contract hadn't been finalized yet and they are doing all of their layoffs that it might affect the contract? It might be cheaper to move some of the Pfizer folks over to established products than pay huge severences. I wish they would just tell us for sure what is going on and that we have jobs starting Q4. It is hard to plan anything when you don't know what is going on. Tell us Pfizer, will we have jobs or not?!?!?

The Established Products Business Unit (EPBU) does not have a sales force in the US. Publicis P4 will become that salesforce. Pfizer plans to grow the EPBU big time in 2012 and we'll basically have 6 months from October 1st to sell enough generics to justify renewing the contract for June of 2012 into 2013

Just a guess, but I'd feel pretty good about being a P4 A bag rep going into Q4. They'll likely be the only ones promoting Lipitor in 2012 where the remaining Pfizer A bag reps are going to be dumping all their cardiologists for OB/GYN's to sell the new menopause indication for Pristiq and the B bag Pfizer reps see a wider rollout of the King Pharma pain products like the Flector patch.

I'm definitely not excited to be selling generics, but I'm happy to keep the job. It's easy money and I don't see that changing even with a bigger territory. We won't have to put up with any managed care BS with everything being generic! I won't be surprised at more layoffs, mostly Pfizer but possibly some shared or low volume P4 territories. We'll know more by Friday!

It might be cheaper than paying huge severences that can be up to 1 year. Below is a posting from the Pfizer board. May just be a desperate Pfizer rep, but you never know. Especially with the lack of communication we have had.

"All displaced PC reps will be moved to EPBU instead of paying severance. P4 will be terminated during their Town Hall on 8/18. Bag and territory adjustments only. Pfizer and its people are in a win/win after they cut the losers in p4."

Pharmalot article talks about how Pfizer reps will be cut this week. They have good reason to be desparate.

There aren't any P4 A bag reps left, they laid them off in June.

COMPLETE AND UTTER bULL$H1t... I know a bunch of P4 A-bag reps. Want names? Territories? If you're dumb enough to think they're going to switch primary care Pfizer reps to the EPBU, then you deserve to be fired!

You don't have to be so rude. All of the A bag reps that I know of in my area were either laid off or moved to the B bag in June. I was under the understanding there weren't any left. You don't know for sure what is going to happen on Thursday, so don't act you do. Do you think it makes sense for Pfizer to pay out some reps over a year of severence? It is an awful lot of money when they could maybe utilize them somewhere else.
