Outstanding Lilly Manager of the Year

GS was originally in bldg 110 btw. If I recall, he was behind on his deliveries and in a hurry so he ordered kilos of ephedrine from Aldrich Chemical. The Feds keep track of the companies that order chemicals that can be used to manufacture drugs like that but don't get alarmed if a company like Lilly orders them unless 99% pure meth with a 99% ee (gotta be a chemist to know what that means) hits the streets of Indy. No turpentine or other hardware store solvent residues, just pure unadulterated meth. Stuff that clean can only come from a handful of places in Indy (Lilly, DowAgro, IUPUI, etc.) and from someone that really knows what he or she is doing. So, the Feds start looking into what company in the area has ordered ephedrine or something similar and followed the trail.

Was it blue (reference to Heisenberg aka Walter White of Breaking Bad)

Tuco: "What is this? This is NOT blue."
GS: "We used a the original chemical process, but it is every bit as pure as blue."
Jesse: "It may not be blue, but it's the bomb."

CSL Leader (CSLL): "GS, why can't we reconcile all of the starting materials you've ordered with lot and/or serial nos. in research records?"

GS: "uh....the system is really slow these past years..."

CSLL: "OK. S+ for you. Keep up the great work. Here's some SpotLight Points. Buy another car for your front yard on the south side."

and SCENE.

And that's what we call "Working Through People" and QSV---especially the S part.

"I do believe he lived in Speedway..." Bah-dump-BUMP!

Thanks for sharing...what an incredible story. The other part of this I heard was that there was a young guy working in the lab with him (not certain if he was involved in the meth making) but as soon as GS was busted the kid disappeared...car left in the parking lot, credit union account untouched. Any truth to this? Got the story from one of the old-timers.

That is true; a BMW left abandoned in a lly parking. The assumption is he was 'disappeared'.

Many in the chemistry community wondered: "How is someone so young, on an associate's salary, able to buy a brand new BMW coupe?" It became apparent over time. To this day, "tomich" has become a verb. When "consensus" rankings were rolled out, there was open speculation that those unlucky souls in the 'low' bucket would be "tomiched."

Do all things point To Mitch? Could be. There are legends of two shadowy figures dragging something into the old Lilly Clinic late one night in march, about 20 years ago. One of the figures, short and fat referred to the other as "Gus".

To this day, late in the evening of Oct. 31, if you stand outside of what was once bldg. 45, you can see a spectral figure dressed in lab whites, wailing. If you turn to the parking lot, in the distance, in a fog, you will make out a white car with its flashers blinking.

And I'm told, that security cameras in bldg. 48 will pick up a brief flash of a figure wandering the basements near the stock room.

I joined Lilly in 1996 and GS was arrested after that (1998 maybe?). Mark Tomich disappeared in 1992, so the two events are probably not related.
