You feel micromanaged because you are micromanaged. Big brother works with you all day.
BMS is no different than any other big pharma company out there!!! They all follow the same model and strategies..... call max, navigator, quest, whatever you want to call it. Insight, Iplan are all tools to micromanage the rep and of course the DBM's and RBD's. BUT REALLY!?!?!?! I have been doing this along time and many, many things have changed over the years but it is still a great job and the best gig out there and believe me I have my moments that I want to throw that f...ing computer out the window, run over it with my Impala, bitch slap my DBM and cuss out the SOB arrogant doctor that I have know f...ing idea how they got out of college let alone medical school and wouldn't let treat my dog!!!!! All and all though I have developed some great friends and connections over the years!! I enjoy my job!!! I laugh, smile, cut up, eat lunch and even manage my meet my behavior and performance goals. It is not that hard to play the game!!!! But I was amazed at the level of idiots I did computer training with!!!! Not sure how they function at all!!! WTF!!! This job is not rocket science but has been a awesome opportunity for me. I still love it!!!
No one I know enjoys this job any longer. Yes we are micromanaged to death. You can't make a move without the management team knowing about it. It is not just the 8-5 time stamping either. They know if you have been on fingertip formulary or if you left a talkpoint 2 minutes early.
The worst is writing a business plan though. Think of the irony. They tell you what to do at every move. Who to call on, how often to call on them, even who to sample. We are trained on the same message over and over and even get verbatims to respond to market changes. Business plan? Ha!
They are always introducing new approaches and techniques (MD mindset) but in the end nothing ever changes. We are robots. Innovation? Riiiiiiiiiight.........
That's is strange. In my district we aren't working off a set call plan. Our DBM told us that is our territory and we know who to call on better than any one else so we created our own call plan and change when needed. I think things have changed significantly in the last 45 days.
Your DBM has about a 2 week life expectantcy with that attitude. First time things even begin to go south, his RBD will jerk a half-hitch in his or her ass. Then its back to tracking forms, weekly teleconferences, mandatory "success stories", and extreme micromanagement. I hope you're right about things changing but I really doubt it will. Keep your chinstrap buckled. As Walter Payton said"Don't take the hit...Give the hit!"
There is no longer any need for reps
I quit .....I was ashamed to be a pharma rep
