Open Position

I was recently contacted by a recruiter about an open position in Iowa. My initial reaction was to look into it, but I am second guessing after looking at this board. My experience with Cafepharma is that usually this board is filled with a bunch of idiots who think they got jobbed. I am amazed at the activity that is going on here, especially very recently. Looks like a lot of trolls who work they need to focus on their career.

Anyway, fire away. I would love to hear why, or why not to look into this further.

Keep looking! Dendreon is a Dog-with-Fleas!! Many people have left this company, both voluntarily and by constraint. The stock is currently trading as a pennystock, and will like not do much better in 2013. Drug is good, but its price tag is too high. And, with other less expensive Prostate Cancer drugs recently receiving FDA approval, 2013 is a make-or-break year for Dendreon. So, unless you are unemployed, I would stay with the problems you know.

Couldn't have said it better! Don't fret as there will be many more open sales positions in the next couple of months. The majority of sales are leaving for almost any other opportunity or being forced out despite stellar performance.

The one caveat would be if senior mgmt/RDs are are turned over, there may be more reps stay. If you like Amgen, you'll love dndn.

Better the devil you know.

Management is almost always the problem. Is the product sound?

Go for it! This is a great company to work for and they love their employees.
If you like hooker's and ho's it's the best. Free flowing booze at meetings. Senior Management hitting on everyone. If they hire you, it's more than likely you will be on a PIP in three months. Just like the rest of us.

But, do they pay well?

Provenge is by far the most innovative product to help patients to date. The therapy is second to none but unfortunately mgmt doesn't understand the pitfalls with it. They wanted patients yesterday and dont seem to grasp/care that this is different than any therapy to date. It's not a pill that you just "sell" a doc on and see a script or a supportive care therapy that you can contract into profitability. Provenge requires a lot of time and effort/handholding with accounts (unless you have an academic institution-who generally don't even talk to the rep).

You cant contract this product to a billion dollars but mgmt seems to think its no different than any other therapy available. If they would just stop being so short sighted Provenge would become a first in class multibillion dollar seller.

Pretty sad the mismanagement of this product. They BOD screwed the pooch when they canned all the old RDs last year. We would be in a different but maybe that's what they want? They all got RICH.

But, do they pay well?

They have to! No one with even a slightly stable job would be stupid enough to join this place. They bump your base way up and give you thousands of worthless stock options (all the while telling you they are going to sell the company for 28+ a share). Sadly most of the recent hires that just completed training are now looking for other opportunities as well. Chances are if you join you will be on a PIP within 3-6 months. The only people that are joining are those that are without jobs currently or Amgen/JNJ reps that are on plans/being forced out with no other opportunities.

CULTURE IS A NIGHTMARE.

Dendreon is a good company to work for. New management has been brought in that is highly experienced and qualified in running a oncology drug franchise in a competitive environment. The people I deal with at the company are competent and professional. From what I have witnessed in the field, I expect the company to grow revenues well over the long-term.

You can not rely on most posts here. One individual is responsible for most of the posts. He has a vendetta against the company and fabricates ludicrous conspiracy theories and other nonsense daily. He does not work for the company and has a short position in the stock so he is trying to profit from his misinformation campaign.

Just look at the response to your question. The company currently trades for $5 a share and has a stock market capitalization of $750 million. Obviously, it is not a penny stock company. The company also has over $400 million in cash. The company is currently doing about $80milion per quarter in revenues just 18 months after its first plant was approved by the FDA.

Provenge stands out as an exceptional therapy that is completed within 1 month and has an excellent side effect profile which is best in class. As an immuntherapy, it has a completely unique mode of action so it can be easily be combined or sequenced with other drugs.

Good luck.

I understand what you are saying, and that is the case with most of the bashers in this forum.

It sounds like reps are from the pharma industry? Is that accurate? Has there been any movement to hire surgical reps? Is this therapy still be marketed to oncology, or is the move towards urology??

Thanks for the insight.

Yes, most of the reps have a pharma or biotech background with oncology drug sales experience. By randomly following one link to the next link to the next, etc, in linkedin you can get a good sense of the sales force background. Most of the reps that I have met are quite good. New sales management is implementing new sales strategies that are working well. What I posted in #10 is totally true.

Very inexperienced rd that operates like a micro managing DM. Total vote of no confidence on her. Rds should be eliminated with dms reporting to a vp of sales. If every iss/account ran analysis of rd visit impact it translates to zero sales. You can fly around every day, send emails all night, doesn't mean a damn bit of contribution to the business. Very effective at creating terrible morale though!
