Merck & Co said on Thursday Kenneth Frazier, one of only a handful of Black CEOs leading major U.S. companies, would step down as chief executive officer at the end of June to be replaced by Chief Financial Officer Robert Davis.

Frazier, 66, will continue to serve on Merck's board as executive chairman for a transition period to be determined by the board, the company said. The company's stock price has doubled since he took the helm in 2011.

Great leader who will be missed. Hopefully he chooses another POC. The “Browning of America” needs leaders who understand all people.
 




Stakeholders? aka employees or is this board member even thinking about them?
Ken does deserve credit for some significant decisions like buying SP, bringing in Roger. But he also owns layoffs of tens of thousands of people and lost billions buying other small companies (Cubist, Ideniix, etc.) that never paid off with new products. No one bats 1000

Why can’t you just give a Black man credit? There’s always a “but” this “but” that. Something in you people won’t allow that.
 








Top leaders are inspiring but somewhere in upper mid management, the dream, passion and shine dwindles to a stain. It’s almost like an instant let down when reality strikes after an inspiring speech. If Merck wants to stay competitive, the executive team needs to pick out the parasites from the workers. There are two groups of people in Merck - people who does the job, and people who watches them do the job, then jump in to take the credit. Imagine how much money can be saved from the salaries.

Ken Frazier a leader? Company price doubled yet other pharma's are up 1000% during the same timeframe! Ken's successes:
He almost brought Merck down with his role in managing the Penn State Sandusky's sexual predator crisis. He was directly responsible for the Vioxx mess as he went against the FDA's recommendation of adding a black box warning. Thankfully Fred Hassan was looking for big bucks and sold Schering-Plough to Merck (Dick Clark) where Merck acquired Keytruda from Schering-Plough. If the stories are correct, Merck was surprised to hear about PD1's at ASCO and pulled Keytruda off the shelf after seeing BMS's success. And his last success was betting against the COVID vaccines, when he finally tried to buy a vaccine, he failed, twice over.

Ken also got rid of almost all of the Schering intellect that developed the pipeline. Under Ken, Merck isn't a R&D company but a buy a product company.

Ken might be smart but not the smarts Merck needed to bring the company to the next level. Ken does have the smarts to make himself very very rich at the expense of the employees.

That is the stupidest and BIGGEST BIGOTED statement of 2021 to date. According to your premise, only a POC can understand "all people". An Asian, Arab, Italian, German, Iranian, Mexican, Jew, Indian, European, , Irish, Polish, and Eskimo, etc can not.

CEO positions take a very rare person who is willing to work all of hours of the day(on-call 24/7) and getting on WEBEX's at 3 AM. Pays well but the QOL sucks - minutes matter.
Getting to the top takes a lot of sacrifices and competency. It is extremely competitive and the competition is just as good as they are.
Ken made some mistakes along the way (Most CEO's do) but he got there because he is competent and his achievements and not because he is a POC.
If a CEO doesn't make $$$$ or makes too many mistakes - THEY ARE GONE no matter what color or gender they are.
