Oh Mother Merck…How I long to be back in your safe, cozy & warm womb…

Do you think, just maybe, you were pushed out because as you stated, you thought the job was to call in lunch orders? I retired after a long career at Merck and felt privileged to represent the company. Never had an issue with any manager, won lots of trips, VP club 4 times, and my house is full of stuff from the NMIP program. Why? Because I SOLD. The job is what you make it. Not surprised you, and others like you, were let go. I hope you change you ways with your next job. All up to you!

Your story would have been and ended much differently if you had entered this industry in the last 15-20 years. None of those people retire with dignity anymore and it has NOTHING to do with how they performed in their job. Absolutely nothing.

I must have missed the post were someone ask you to come on here and write an autobiography about yourself toss out some insults and behave like a adolescent idiot. I guess you thought it was about you. It wasn't. No one cares about your fake vacations and other fictions. Shut up. Go way.
PS: you are a blowhard braggart. You're too stupid to know it.

Personally, I'm happy to see someone do so well post-Merck. It was kind of uplifting, actually. I also agreed with their assessment of the pharma sales career. I'd like to know what she or he's doing now.

What an arrogant fool you are…I am the OP and I won all the ridiculous awards and NMIP stuff as well…that means nothing if you are targeted for your age/salary by your CTL or Director. You can stick your 4 VP awards where the son don't shine cochise…

You sold huh? Well, la dee da my all star friend, guess what?? I sold too!!

You were lucky…Now leave your sanctimonious bull shite and get lost Tony Robbins…

FU

Yeah... you sold...right. You just got caught doing nothing to collect a check. Do you have proof you were targeted for your age or salary? Get a lawyer then, as it's against the law. Do you really think Merck would be dumb enough to do that? A consult won't cost you anything. Go for it! In reality, you're just whining because you couldn't do what you wanted to do. I think your original post mentioned catering lunches, and faking crap. You said the VP and NMIP stuff meant nothing to you. You didn't have to order anything. Could have let the points sit there if you really felt they were worthless. Also, the VP award comes with a check. Did you cash it? I'm sorry I hit a nerve with you but you need to deal with it and move on. Stop using CP to whine. Might be it just isn't the right job for you.

VP awards hav'nt meant anything for over 15 years. It's the first thing you throw away.

No meaning for over 15 years? You should tell your manager that so he can give it to someone else then. Stick up for your beliefs. I enjoyed the VP awards and cash that came with it. BTW....The 4 I won were from 1996 to 2013(retired then) so I guess they DO have meaning. I know it's tougher out there than when I was at Merck, but I'm tired of seeing all the whining. People need to control their own destiny! You aren't being forced to work at Merck, or any place else!

Let me put it into present tense. Inside the industry everyone on an interview has multiple multiple awards. Outside the industry they are meaningless. Even more so for a retiree so your comment is irrelevant. You can't eat an award.

Targeted and screwed is the name of the game. Shame on the CTLs and Directors. Shame and more shame on them...

Point taken. As a retiree, I admit don't know current environment. Disagree with comment being irrelevant though. My point is each person needs to control his/her path in life, and there are people at Merck that are, or were, successful. The person needs to find out who...and why. And I don't eat the awards. I admire them as they hang on my den wall and I'm thankful for earning them through hard work. I call it pride.

Driving around and faking work is nothing to be proud of. Hobknobbing and making small talk all day (4 hours of it) is nothing to be proud of. Taking someone carry-out is nothing to be proud of. Neither is buying cookies or donuts. Delivering little boxes full of shitty meds is nothing to be proud of. You pharma sales "career"? It was and remains the biggest lie in the sales world. Stop kidding yourself. You never sold anything.

Irrelevant is a comment of an individual with no scruples or comment sense. I know you haven't received an award due to your useless existence. Brought up with no direction or morals hopefully there are no siblings one genetic mutant is enough!

On the contrary, the post you responded to was spot on. Today's reality has nothing to do with scruples, common sense, morals or awards. You are disconnected from reality and it's pathetic.

finally, someone who gets it…great post…pharma sales is a total charade…it cracks me up when you get these losers like the guy on this thread, who is so proud of his awards, and says he was successful because "he sold" and all the other ridiculous crap…

must be some dickwad manager trying to prop up his useless existence…

there is nothing about pharma sales that anyone should be proud of...

So true. Loved it when we would have a med on Medi-Cal formulary and a new rep would win an award. They would get up on the stage high fiving like they were the best sales person in the world. 18 months later, product off formulary. Rookie rep of the year on a PIP. Same person, same work habits, just under the illusion they influenced top results. Rude awakening to discover that at best, we are maintenance selling.

Totally disagree. I sold by comparing my drug against a competitors and used reprints or the PI as proof. If no drug rep actually "sells", why did my market share increase compared to a competitor in the territory, yet in other territories it was reversed? Yes, I did RFM's as they gave me access, but didn't bring coffee, donuts etc, or even dinner programs. Yes, I'm proud of the company and what I did. If your not...LEAVE! Another whiney little baby. WHAHHHH! Job is too tough, I'm not successful, Wahhhh! Got canned because I had no clue how to use a reprint effectively.

"Sorry, no RX Reps need apply."
"No Rx Reps, please."
"Copier sales and previous medical device sales OK. No Rx."

Ever seen these statements before Einstein?

Try to find a pharma sales job these days and if you've got 10, 15, 20 years experience they do not want you.

It's now young kids with a few years of any sales experience and any degree major.

They're favoring youth and low pay checks.

The truth!! Unless you are connected expect a long dry run...

Apparently, not only are you a terrible sales person, which is probably why you got canned, you can't read either. I mentioned a couple times I'm retired. Why would I see these statements? And you call me the Einstein...lol. I'll be you're just applying for sales positions based on your post. If you sucked at Merck, why do you think you'll succeed in another sales position? Try another field.

Post 37-I agree and it's logical. If access is continuing to decline, and you get maybe 30 seconds on average with providers, why would a company want to pay you the equivalent of what a Primary Care physician makes? To improve earnings, company needs to go completely to contract reps as impact seems to be the same as compared to the highly paid individuals, based on market tests. Business has severely changed and people need to wake up and re-invent themselves if they want to be employed.

Hiring widget and thing salespeople is the new trend in pharma sales.

Sell a piece here, sell a piece there....When the industry is looking for people who come from widget sales, rental car sales, telephone yellow book, copier sales you know they do not want science, patients and efficacy types....

It's now a different world.

Pharma sales types? Now contract reps making less than those widget sellers!
