Oh I hate the thought of Monday coming

Feel like we are getting ready to walk into a minefield on Monday. The next few weeks are going to be brutal and all the managers will be telling us "Business as Usual".

Who in their right mind is going to put any effort into this job when most of us know we will not be here in a few weeks!!

There is something to be said for being able to look at yourself in the mirror and know you did your best, every day. No one is safe and the company needs to make cuts with the market situation. None of that means you have to give up who you are and become one of the whiny, entitled, woe is me kind of people. The people who maintain some level of self pride, do their job, and control what they can control, are often the first to find new jobs too. There is something in the outlook and demeanor of these people that sets them apart from the whiners and poor me crowd and they survive better as a result.

Good luck to everyone. Plan for the possibility of job loss as best you can. Update your resume, expand your network, save everything you can. Support each other and help out those let go in any way you can!

I hope they ask for voluntary lay offs in all divisions. I would be 1st in line if the package was average. I dread Monday because I truly dislike what I do for a living. Can't quit because I have too much time invested.

Hey I get it; but for me, I have to stay busy to keep my mood up. Anyway, the field will probably be a ton o fun with all the gossip. I plan on networking with the other reps I see out there.

I bet you were the only guy on the Titanic with a bucket scooping water saying, " I'm not going to give up." The rest of the people are getting on the life boats and your left behind.
Get the hell out.

This is what decent, upstanding people do. You adperate yourself from others on this site. As a part of the baby boomer generation I am appalled at the whiney, self righteous, feeling entitled to something gen Xer's. I have 2 grown children and I know I have instilled in them better values and behaviors than I see from these spoiled brats. I am more proud of my hard working, respective children than ever. I am more disappointed in the work ethic and morals of my apparent co-workers than ever. What losers - I know your parents must be ashamed and feel somewhat responsible for the way you turned out.

Oh go fuck off , this is what "decent, upstanding people do" when thave have "decent, upstanding management" that treats them like human beings during good times & bad , it's not like anyone disagrees with layoffs but the sheer crap novartis pulls & the demeaning humiliating way it treats employees deserves a far worse in response than blowing off working holiday . Velez 2 & 3 would be a good start

I can see you are angry and you may have right to be. However, I am guessing you must be getting something out of the situation or you would leave. That's what gets me. If you are so unhappy, just leave. It makes the odds better for those of us who want to stay. Novartis is not for everyone - so leave, would ya?!

Nah, they won't leave because they are exactly the whiny, entitled brats that are far too predominant in the sales force today.

All the best to those of you with a work ethic and some self pride. I watched many people let go during the last round in oncology. It was all a matter of luck and if you were standing in the right place at the right time. I felt managers were direct, somewhat cold in demeanor, but only due to legal requirements in our sue happy world. I also watched how fast GOOD people were hired into other positions within Novartis and the efforts to find them other jobs outside of the company. I'm not a Novartis lifer and have never witnessed another company make these kinds of efforts on behalf of those cut. This wasn't Pfizer, announcing the cuts were just the dead wood, or smaller companies who cut and offer next to no severance. It's brutal right now but Novartis handles the cuts better than most.

Look forward a few years and more than 50% of us will be gone, no matter what company we are with. It's just the reality of the industry. So, as I said in post #2, you can either whine and gnash your teeth, or have some self pride, keep your work ethic, network and prepare as best you can, and survive. Poster #4 will still be laying in bed while the rest of you are interviewing and finding new opportunities.

So while I agree that you should always prepare yourself for the worst and maintain some pride in your work, it becomes difficult when you are left with no products to sell on Monday.
It becomes embarassing when you have to let all your physicians know to switch drugs when they have not even given you all the answers to their questions. I am not saying that I dont have pride or work ethic but it becomes difficult when you have been pushing these doctors to use these drugs for years and now you are asking them to switch everyone.

I suspect your doctors read news releases and understand that we learn more the longer drugs are on the market. Can you face it a little easier by knowing you are doing a service by providing even negative information about our products, just in case they missed the updates? The job is not always positive but this is part of what we are paid to do. Perhaps your job is even more important to patients right now than when it was positive information being shared? You can gain tremendous credibility if you approach this right, getting in to your top writers as soon as possible.

BS. Perfect example of lack of pride and not caring at all is the recent Multaq fiasco. NOT ONE REP worked the week between Christmas and New Years to bring doctors up to date. Would you do business with these jokers? I know I never will again. Ever. Never. You come in my office and act like you care and you beg me to use your "great medical option". Then you find out it kills patients. That can wait, you say, U FN worthless self entitled loser. Your company should have demanded you work and fired your ass if you said no, not given you the option. Guess my New Year resolution.
YOU AND YOUR COMPANY BETTER STAY OUT OF MY OFFICE, ALWAYS!

Oh don't bother yourself with some of the posts that sounds disturbing. This is just their way of venting. Loosing a job is never easy for anyone and people deal with it in different ways....and, with this site, anonymity allows people to say a lot of different things. Freedom of speech....let these people say what they want to say and you can always click [delete].

I had 4 reps come off of vacation the week before Christmas. As a district we hit every physician in our district who had written an Aliskiren product. We will now follow up with all targets and make a second call on the writers. There are some of us out here with a good sense of ethics. We care about our physicians and their patients.

Good for your team. The way the company plays arounds with numbers and bonuses there is no way I would ever come off vacation for this company. The company proved to me years ago that I am just a number and in return I give them the bare minimum. The best part about it I was able to start a side business on NVS time and now I don't need the job for income. If I get laid off I will take the package and not look back. If I don't get laid off I will again do the minimum for 2012. You might not like my tactics but in the end I don't worry about if I have a job and I make over $300k a year
