Oct. 31 then more layoffs?

"The remaining people in Rochester are the crème de la crème of the organization and will not be touched."
The person who wrote this needs professional help...

Face it. There are more PhDs, MDs, ODs, and people with technical and company know how information in Rochester than anywhere else. Rochester is simply smarter and more educated and therefore the people in Rochester are the crème de la crème of B+L.

You've just identified yourself as a troll now. Move along buster, consider yourself ignored.

Probably a lot of educated people got let go. There is more to a persons value than just education level.

It probably does not matter what happens in Rochester. A lot of the functions are moving to New Jersey. Even if all of the scientific and technical staff are located there now reorganizing the structure could just make Rochester a contact lens manufacturing facility in the future.

Plans are already underway to "consolidate" operations in Bridgewater and Madison into a newer building in Summit (NJ) by early 2015 -- but that newer building is not going to be very big (probably smaller than the Bridgewater one) so that means there will be more "cost synergies" i.e. more layoffs from both Valeant and B+L over the next year.

2014 is going to suck.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Finally someone who has figured out there is nothing "special" about Rochester, the address or the people.

Rochester is the nerve center of the entire operation. Without Rochester B+L is finished. That is why it is immune to layoffs. Valeant sent out a message to everyone emphasizing that Rochester and D&R is safe from anymore layoffs.

Valeant sending a message doesn't mean anything!! They can and will do anything to save money. Pearson tells every company they're safe, and then within a brief amount of time, they are all gone. Ask Medicis what they were told. Ask Dow what they were told. Ask Obagi, Biovail, Eyetech, etc. etc. what they were told. No one is safe in this shithole of a company!

Chuck Schumer has received quarantines from Valeant management that their will be no more layoffs in Rochester.

Therefore, McKensley was likely just asking the people in Rochester who to layoff at the other facilities. If you have a job in Rochester your future is as good as gold as the Feds are protecting your jobs. My guess is that either Greenville or Tampa will be closed down and all of those jobs will be headed for Rochester.

What is this nonsense. Greenville and Tampa actually produce product that sells and brings in boatloads of cash. Valeant needs that cash to pay back all the money they borrowed.

You and know that and I know that. But this person is apparently some in-bred, delusional, Rochester idiot. Just ignore him and he'll soon lose interest and go back to counting his 11 toes.

The Goodman St. number was updated. Has it moved by much for the original submission?

I see the addition in red. Wow. the original number was 106 now it is over 300 affected(see in red on the bottom)

So an additional 200 people will be laid off updated from the original. I am sure the Democrat and Chronicle missed this and have not issued a new press release. It is a sneaky way to slip in another 200 layoffs without causing too much political fallout.

200 additional people is a lot. Very sneaky. So the total tally in Rochster was going to be about 500 and now 700? very confusing but maybe that is the whole point.

Really? Everyone knew this was coming. WP over beefed up the ranks during their ownership. There were so many countless layers of useless managers, directors, and vice-presidents who's positions were just "made up" of people that barely existed, had no clue that B&L even did, or better yet showed up for work no more than 16 hours a week. Ask your Finance people who have been with the company for 15, 25, or 30 years - they will tell you that indirect overhead and absorption were eating B&L alive from the inside out. Have no sympathy for these people. They should have been gone decades ago. If you don't contribute to the bottom line, you need to go - Valeant buyout or not - so the rest of us can do our jobs, do them well, preserve eyesight around the globe, and not be held back by this cumbersome overhead.

Jesus !! I'm getting so fed up with this mentality that Rochester and its employees represent some kind of awe inspiring magic bullet. This 'brain trust' is what brought B&L down and subjected it to where we are today. Hold these dirtbags accountable as you go to the unemployment line and file for food stamps. The pockets of the few, have been lined by the foreclosed homes of the many.
