I agree with the sales people. Genentech was founded by Robert Swanson who was by in large a sales person. He cold call Herbert and pitched him an idea, to start a company. That’s truly an art. Maybe, they are not satisfied with the criteria of how they are selling. That’s really on top management fault not setting expectations.
 




Prior to any competition for the Genentech products, selling consisted of showing up when the rep felt like it and pretend to know what they were doing. Competition is what shook the tree there as exclusivities and one-of-a-kind therapies were no longer the best in class. The past decay has been focused on trying to compete with big pharma that trained monkeys to do the job.
