Obesity and Diabetes IC discrepancy

Please explain why obesity reps are averaging between 200%-300% IC payout while diabetes reps are lucky to get 120% yet again this quarter?

OCS reps bring in a tenth of the revenue and volume but are rewarded exponentially higher.

Don’t get me wrong, good for them! It would just be nice for the real revenue drivers in this company to be incentivized in a similar fashion given the fact that we are the ones keeping the lights on.

I guess I should have gone to obesity when I had the chance.

We’re specialty reps driving the company’s future and you’re primary care reps leaning on the company’s past. Your “huge volume” requires multiple reps in multiple layers which all costs the company more money. Even with the expansion, most of us are still in large single rep territories calling on the entire eco system, selling a drug that is as much a cultural zeitgeist as viagra was. Oh, and the drug costs more with a quarter of the coverage and Wegovy will still be $3bn in sales this year.

So yeah, pay us.

That said, the real reason is because the company understands none of that stuff because they, too, are all diabetes morons like you, and so the real reason we keep getting paid is because they don’t know the market. Eventually that will end, as will our gravy train.

Ok, I came in a little hot and apologize for that but consider this: almost 50% of ozempic nbrx in Q4 of 2022 was off label, per the company’s own financials. They did bump up the target bonus for DCS, but I do agree they could pay diabetes more than they do.

They just can’t figure out how to forecast obesity and as long as there are diabetes people doing those forecasts, our sales force is going to take advantage of it.

I’m actually a little mad at how much some of my low volume counterparts in obesity are making. High volume territories are not doing as well, same as diabetes.

Actually, the diabetes PRODUCTS, not the diabetes reps keep the lights on. Your promotional impact is very small (Commercial Effectiveness measures promotional impact), meaning the products would continue to perform even without you in territory. The obesity products are different - they are more detail sensitive, meaning the rep has more impact on territory performance. That’s why you get paid less IC and they get paid more.

And, if you’ve worked here for very long, you should understand that no one is going to pay you more money for the same performance just to keep you here. No one cares if you leave. There are fifty people in your geography waiting for an opening who can come on and be just as good as you are. If you think you can find a better job, I’d encourage you to do it. NNI isn’t going to change, so I’d encourage you not to sit around waiting for them to.

Yeah, I was a DCS 8 years ago. You’re right. Makes sense. We just expanded by a third - totally free to have gone for one of those jobs. It’s a totally different sale.

So, why aren’t you doing their OCS job? It was apparently offered as a promotion opportunity, and now you’re complaining on CP about the bonus disparity between the 2 teams. Sounds like you made a bad financial choice, and now you think someone should pay you more bonus because of your bad choice.

And what point are you really trying to make? You don’t like the term “specialty rep” being used by the OCS team? You somehow want to take credit for Ozempic success? Is that it? Well - congrats. Kinda shaking my head here, both OCS that I overlapped barely leave house. The one office pretty good Wegovye numbers and has called rep, asked for stuff etc. She is like, no, they are not worthy. Office is number 10-11 writer, but has no interest in going there. So is that detail sensitive.

It’s literally blah blah blah - no matter how much a DCS grows based on potential it’s nearly impossible to make 30k in a quarter for a bonus. Why don’t you just enjoy your gift of a bonus for the next couple quarters and let people vent . They have the right to. Also, if a DCS isn’t happy then they could move on to another job or even company but I do agree the disparities between true bonus potential for the obesity division vs diabetes is completely ignorant and unfair.
