Thats just too bad! Remember, this is a free market society. In this case, the fed govt is trying to get the best price, etc that it can get; just pfizer does, and all other companies do. The drug industry has been pillaging this country for decades, now you are angry at govt for sayin "enough"? The bottomline line is that these companies will make many billions in profit annually, and do noty NEED to cut anyone!

Virtually all payers insist on rebates including all insurers. The medicare and medicaid are insurance and should operate as such. In many cases, drug companies decide not to seek the coverage, because they dont want to pay rebates. Well same here, if they dont want to pay rebates, dont seek the medicare/medicare business.

The govt is not responsible for the hypothetical layoffs; they rest solely with the drug companies, should they occur. I ask you hypothetically, why woyld a company who made 10 billion+_ in profits for 2011, NEED to have layoffs in 2012? Greed is the problem.

Maybe that's the exact number of useless pharma reps that need to be cut! Look at what the pharma industry has done to contribute to skyrocketing healthcare and insurance costs with our medical system. How many bogus studies and sales schemes did they get busted for, lying to doctors about efficacy and safety?

How many useless me-too drugs like Toviaz, or laughable combination drugs, like Caduet did they promote, merely to avoid losing profits from other drugs going generic? Then they pressured insurance companies to cover these over priced, $150.00 per month drugs, claiming they were the only drugs that could achieve the new "goals" from the sham data. The insurance companies then passed their expenses onto us, the customers through hidden costs in ever increasing premiums and copays, hence the need for an overhaul of the healthcare system!

Thanks Mr. President, for doing the right thing, when most industries are so blindly profit driven, they'd rather create schemes than actually create solutions for our highly overpriced healthcare system.

It is a fact I have heard it on more than one news station. She did say it exactly as "we have to pass the bill to see what's in it" Although what you said is also true, she was trying to make a broader point. Regardless she would be better off shutting up once in a while.
