Novartis Oncology is toxic

I think those who post here are a vocal minority. I've been around 10+ years and while my job has changed so has the industry. Last time I looked my 6 figure salary was getting paid every month. This isn't exactly heavy lifting. I just tell my manager what she wants to hear and plat the game. This isn't Rocket Surgery.

Vocal minority? I think one suicide is worth 1000 posts. How many have there been at NVS now?

Another cafe pharma troll that knows nothing. All business units have a call tomorrow with their respective VPs. Oncology/Hematology, Psych/Neuro, MM, Managed Markets. Change is definately in it way. Good luck to all......it all starts in home office and then expands to the low level rep/specialists. Just a matter of time.

If by Troll you mean someone who doesn't just make shit up and post it to get a rise out of those who are so desperate for information that they seem willing to believe anything than I guess this person is guilty as charged.

The fact is there has been a reorg in house in Oncology that has had little to no affect on either head count or the sales force. There was no mention of a Onc 3-4 merger and basically the announcement that 2011 will be business as usual.

I'd say those who just post lies and speculation are the Trolls. Not the people who seem to know exactly what is happening.

Eat your fruit and vegetable.

In the past NVS HEM/ONC has been quiet about changes until the shoe drops.

Stay tuned and see their skullduggery for yourselves.

Remember, their bottom line is their only bottom line!

I bet you a left nut that there will be changes announced either at or by the National meeting in January.....Volante was big announcement.

Life at Novartis Oncology kind of reminds me of the storyline in the great movie Paths of Glory.

Lets see who gets lined up to be shot as an example (and motivation) for the troops!

The concept of toxic work environment is now personified by Novartis Oncology

Territories designed to be non-workable
Experienced reps being forced out
Questionable sales goal setting
Managers out of control
Reps out on disability
Panic sales meetings
Mindledss paperwork
Reps quitting
Low morale
Suicides

(feel free to add to the list)

What happened to what used to be a really good gig?

‘The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.’
(from Edmund Burke)

I can't believe how bad we are going to get waxed by Amgen. Our crusty old Onc 1 and 2 sales force can't even get out of bed, let alone compete against another drug, they never had any competition. They should have had the Afinitor sales force come in for a little bit, at least they have fire and look like they are under 80 years old! Geez, can't we get any rep over 50 out of this nursing home we call a sales force?

Novartis or Amgen, hell, it's the Amgen force that is made up of a bunch of old ladies in my area - I cross over with 3 different Amgen forces too. The damn Onc reps are a bunch of newbies from mass market that have no clue to how oncology works.

Ok newbe I guess you have so many yrs of Hem/Onc sales experience you shouldn't be AFRAID of Amgen.

Calling Onc 1 and 2s old and using the nursing home card is weak. Its A*&h*&*s like you who are selling a mindless product and are just a "sample machine" giving the industry a bad name.

There is nothing like an experienced rep to know how to work against Amgen and with the relationship built over the years maintain his sales.

A wet behind the ears robot like yourself could never keep up with the everyday changing Hem/Onc atmosphere.

Hey doc can I load up your cabinet with my be too drugs today? Keep carring that DETAIL bag you moron!!!!!!!!

Well, maybe you are one of the few old Onc 1 and 2's that are worth a crap. The majority of the Onc 3 and 4 "Newbees" work everyday, grow business, and take half of the Zometa/Femara calls because the offices do not even know who you are. All the dinosaurs have to go!! My Onc 1 and 2's don't know how to work the computer, never answer their cell phones, do not know how to text, never follow up, and are just buying time until retirement. The Onc 3 and 4 team are carrying the whole sales force right now!! Don't you think they would have given Afinitor (the next 4 billion dollar drug) to the seasoned Onc 1 and 2's? They know you can't competitive sell and they got a taste of it at the recent war games, pitiful performance I hear. In our war games, we were so good, that we sold Somatuline better and beat Afinitor in our war games, not so with Xgeva, you guys got worked!! So, please retire and let the young hungry competitive reps come in so we can kick some Amgen butt and any other competitor. When you show the hunger and answer your phones and work for a change, maybe you will get some respect!!! Until then, please retire and move over bacon!!

I really loved your post which must stand as a prime example of satire and cynicism. In my experience it is the younger reps who don't seem to know how to answer their telephones.

As far as work ethic goes, how can Novartis business ever take precedence over the other demands faced by all those soccer (and ballet, fencing, tennis and music) Moms.

You think that you "hungry" reps could do a better job but somehow don't mention disease state knowledge. Let's see how long it will take you to understand metastatic bone disease.
Maybe you can take your competitive mind-set and go sell Pontiacs.

Novartis, First in class (action) again

Novartis Loses Test Case
By fitsnews • on November 22, 2010

A federal court jury in Winston-Salem, N.C. has ruled that global pharmaceutical
giant Novartis must pay $12 million to the estate of a North Carolina woman
after the company failed to disclose potentially-harmful side effects associated
with two of its top-selling drugs.

The ruling is a “test case” for future class action suits involving the drugs
Aredia and Zometa – which are prescribed to bone cancer patients.

The decision is a major defeat for Novartis – the Swiss company that
manufactures the drugs. A month ago, a New Jersey jury rejected a woman’s claims
that the drugs caused her jawbone to deteriorate.

Charleston, S.C. attorney Vernon Glenn represented the family of Rita Fussman,
who died of an unrelated illness last year.

Among the damning bits of evidence introduced by Glenn?

An internal Novartis email in which a company marketing executive appears to
suggest that that company withhold a report that documented multiple instances
of jaw deterioration associated with Zometa users.

In closing arguments last week, Glenn claimed that Novartis deliberately hid the
risks associated with the drug to protect $1.5 billion in annual profits.

In addition to Fussman’s case there are currently some 700 cases pending against
Novartis regarding Aredia and Zometa.

In related Novartis news, 6,200 current and former female employees of the
company are receiving checks related to a $175 million sexual discrimination
case.

Affinitor? Yeah right! 4 billion? Maybe over the drugs entire marketed life span.
Other m-tors are here now and with more coming. And how about your the tiny "boutique" indications. When any competition comes in your sales will plummet.

In terms of your ability - try becoming knowledgeable in several meaningful tumors at once like Breast, Lung, Prostate and Myeloma . You wannabees can hardly handle RCC!

If you are so great at selling Somatuline then maybe you should go work for Ipsen.
