No more bonus pay on sales results

When I was a young vibrant salesman at Lilly, we all stood as examples of the great American Way. We were honest, hard working and humble. Our efforts saved the lives of millions while providing comfortable lives for our families, communities and churches. We operated as a team who covered each others backs during both good and bad times. We respected everyone and were respected by most everyone. These Generation X types have reversed everything with their self-centered careers and greed for a luxurious lifestyle. You have destroyed the American dream for all of us.

Baby-boomers are classically known as self-centered. But sales people in general are self-centered. My guess iis that it has to do with the station of life you are in. If you are middle-aged, you may be quite similar to the those in previous generations. Believe me, I get confused seeing old guys and thinking they are WWII vets. Nope, they are mostly Vietnam vets. The old guys in their late 70's may have fought in Korea. Middle aged vets are from the first Gulf War. People are decent or rude not because of generation, but because of upbringing.

Wrong. "Old time" Lilly reps were horrible sales people. We hired only pharmacist who for the most part had a hard time connecting with Dr.'s. Lilly has always been horrible at marketing and up until about 2000 we had one of the lowest ranked sales forces(based on sales effectiveness) in all of pharma. It has improved significantly since then but we are still mid pack when compared to other companies.

So you were hired after 2000- Let's see couldn't sell Xigris worth a crap, Effient isn't supporting even a small part of the company, and the new and improved crop of Lilly reps let Novo take over the diabetes world. The way pharma was morphed in the 2000's was the downfall of the reputation of Lilly. Back in the old days it didn't take fake tits or a 23 year old pretty boy to turn a doctors head- guess what it doesn't today either.
 




































Territory level quotas are a thing of the past. Team quotas are to be announced as well as more weighting for cvm and manager evaluations. No more being ranked versus your peers. Maybe now we will focus more on doing what's right for the patient.

Are you Serious? Spoken like a true brainwashed flock member. You can listen to all the spin you want. This is simply a way to cut costs. Sounds like you are low performer and always have a reason why you didn't hit your numbers and why this is a "better" system.
what a bunch of BS! - You can still do what is right for the patient and the doctor and still hit or exceed your numbers.. It is called Sales!! It doesn't matter what type of sales you are in -- you need to meet the customer where they are.. build trust-focus on a positive outcome-know that your drug isn't always the correct choice for every patient-stay on the goals and agenda of the customer.. It isn't that tough!!

This new system is just like a little kid's Tee ball team... Everybody get's a trophy! Anybody that is all for this new "Bonus" Structure is either a kissass, a brainwashed idiot, a low performing non-working dead weight employee who can now "Hide" even more, or is a card carrying communist.

The Other Bonus segments are totally subjective -- up to someone elses discretion which means -- You have no control over your own bonus. Managers will be given a small bonus bucket and will probably be incentivized to not use it all. These are gonna be a couple of tough next couple years especially with no products making it to market. This is away for the company to stay cash strong.. and continue to "stick it" to the sales force.

They know that Top Performers and Top business mined people will see through this and probably jump ship. That is exactly what the company wants. - Those Top Performers and Business minded folks probably have a higher salary. This new incentive plan does a lot of dirty work. - Less money paid out... Less leverage for Reps to make a case for promotion and more pay. and will motivate higher paid reps to leave the company so they can fill the vacancy with a brainwashed flock member or bring in a person that they can pay a smaller salary to.

Not much has really changed other than weighting when it comes to the manager position or higher.. Managers were pretty much always paid at the District Performance level.

It would be nice to know who provided feedback and suggestions into this plan. probably no top performer... probably young dumb employees who would just say anything to land in the good graces of corporate and maybe get an associate role.

I'm sure they will say that the field was unhappy with the current bonus structure based on Pulse Surveys and this will be their justification for the wholesale changes. They want less chance for variation in their bonus payout pool and this will likely do a good job of reigning that in.

So, the only individual part of my review will be the subjective assessment of my values and behaviors by my manager? Let the real brown-nosing begin!
