Lilly would be best suited to just hire all Contract Sales people anyway. Contract Reps this days or great sales reps that have been displaced by Big Pharma companies because of Mass layoffs or who have been in contract for many years and don't want to deal with the big pharma bullshit. It is the wave of the future and Lilly Sales reps should embrace any contract rep that they come in contact with because we might just save your jobs by moving market with the unbelievable relationships that he have with many doctors. Selling in Pharma this days is not about how good your product is anymore but what kind of personal relationship you have with your doctors. Embrace the Contract Reps Lilly folks because we are here to stay.

What a silly statement. Selling in Pharma is not about how good your drug is? I can see exactly why you are a contract rep. Being contract means you are disposable. Being disposable means you are less valued. The flip side to that is that if you are less valued you will be less engaged and have less equity in whatever it is you are doing. By going to an only contract sales force you are simply lowering the bar and the performance for the sales force. No doubt there are some excellent FDE reps, but on the whole most are mercenaries who want to get a check for a 10-2 job or a college grad trying to get some experience to make jump to a permanent gig. Do not lie to yourself. Every FDE would kill to become full time. And as far saving our jobs by moving market? What are you talking about? The only person you are helping is yourself. What will save our jobs has nothing to do with your tiny primary care territory somewhere in goblowyourdad, ohio. Use your head.

Hey - it worked out great in IT...

How many FDEs become full time with Lilly? Or are most unemployed after 2 years? We all have mortgages to pay.

That's easy: NONE. NADA. Niente. Not a single FDE is hired on full time, in any component or functional area--EVER. They are also easy fodder for immediate termination at (lly's) will, sans severance. Be Warned.

You are an absolute fool if you ever believed you have a chance at lasting past 2 years. Even permanent full timers are worried about their future. Where do you think the additional head count reduction will come from first??? That's why FDE was put into place.

Simply not true. I know of several fde reps that were hired full time including 1 on my team.

During THIS downsizing? This round of FDE only just began with the hiring class March 2010, to be sure to prepare for the headcount reduction upcoming. That may well be true, but I'd guess with a different time frame. This year is a whole new game....possibly for more than just FDEs.

Well, I have worked in pharma for 25 years, and the last 4 jobs have barely lasted 2 years due to layoffs Merck, Roche, Pfizer, J&J. So, at least you will get 2 years out of the fixed position. This pharma industry as we used to know it is gone.

Americans need to realize that pharma industry will be, in future, importing drugs for them. Excuse? We do not make it in US and A. They will tell congressional panel watchdog that times have changed and biz model have evolved. It would be easier to import than make in US, we can then begin mass drugging the country oncemore...this time eternally.

So in this hiatus and fogginess of corporate doldrum, we need to learn that drug companies, like oil companies will never serve the American interest., or Chinese, or Britsh or French interests. Like Valdez or Gulf of Mexico disasters, we will bring on drugs to create global disaster. John is a contributor and active participant in this global takeover. Then - even doctors will not be able to prescribe "complex multicombinational cud" that will be thrown down into your gullets by "corporate-trained" specialists.
