Any truth to the rumour that there will be mass layoffs in Q3..? My manager says we will be ok but I heard at least one third of us will be gone!!! Anyone in "the know" know what is going on?

I did not go to Harvaaard, but if the goal is to get to 35000 employees and there are 38500 current employees, that leaves 3500 more to go. I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

Sleep tight

Zyprexa patent expiration, billions per year gone. Say total cost per employee 100k, for each billion, that's 10,000 employees. So "mass layoff" is a bit of an understatement, to put it mildly.

Do the math. How many billions per year for Zyprexa (x)? How much cost per employee(y)?
x/y= ???

Sleep well. Just remember that the company is currently surviving only because the Federal Govt gave us leniency for the felony Zyprexa marketing, which more than likely resulted in more than a few deaths in nursing homes and elsewhere. The reasoning, which was publicly stated, was that employees needed to be protected from crimes they did not commit.

How that kind of reasoning will play out in the years to come is a toss up. When the Indianapolis campus is a smoking crater of it's present state, and lawsuits of all kinds pile up not just in the US, but also the OUS, most likely the legal staff will be occupying several floors of Bldg 74.

You know, as you enter Louisville from Indiana, the first things that really stand out are a large bust of the Colonel, then a large hospital complex, bigger than any I have ever seen. As a professional medic once advised me, try to avoid those places, once you go in, there is a good chance you won't make it out alive.

If you get HR to speak candidly, the ultimate goal is to get global headcount down to <20,000. Lil'lie used to be a powerhouse in neuroscience/cns. Now it is a laughing stock shambles, with a sewerpipeline of illusion, spin and idiocy. It remains leaderless with more r&d people are bailing by the day. The reputation of failure and criminality means it will not draw the kind of talent to turn it around; people internally will be reshuffled into caretaker positionsuntil the entire division is punted/shuttered in the 'developed market' limbo. Do the math; cancer/onco is where the last gasp is being placed--play up the terminal endpoint, show heart-tugging images of balding kids waiting for gemzar and the endless kinase inhibitor toxins that populate the early phase pipe-lie. Do the math before it does you.

LillyTanic will attempt, in desperation, to remain afloat via cancer/onco. to justify premium pricing. Look for DTC ads featuring bald kids with IVs in clawfooted tubs while tinkling piano concertos play. JCL will appear with one tear streaming from his elephantine eye, as he admonishes: THINK OF THE CHILDREN™. Neuro/cns is over and will face unbelievable cuts until it is officially no longer part of the portfolio of the 'mature market' BU.

If anyone thinks the target is 35000, just hang out around a printer on 74. That number went bye-bye a long time ago.

Indeed. Mass exodus impending, just in time for the "economic recovery."

Look for more PR splashed on the pages of the IndyStar to distract from the real story.

Look for a glut of housing in Indianapolis, Carmel, Geist.

Look for empty parking lots.

Look for a new job.

Just think. At one time...long ago....stretch limos would pick up sales reps at the end of the day and take them to Riley Towers. Eventhough it is April 1, that is not a joke.

But these days, Lilly is.

We need to get rid of approx. 1/4 of the reps and the rest of us will have something to do. This new ialign tool should be used to look at what % of the business reps can actually impact and get rid of those who have "no see/low access" territories. In addition, let us get rid of these managers that just drive with us and annoy our customers. Dr. today I would like to talk to you about.....

Yes exactly, during these times, we must all ask, "manager?" Just what DO you manage?

With all of the tablets and other connectivity, your manager might as well be on the 12th floor of Bldg. 74. Don't be surprised if the John app suddenly opens and you get a personal greeting from the man himself.

Lilly could downsize all of their the sales organizations by a third and suffer no decrease in sales volume or customer satisfaction. In fact, CVM scores would probably go up by decreasing the number of calls on customers (weekly or more in some cases) with little to no new information to share.

Lilly would be best suited to just hire all Contract Sales people anyway. Contract Reps this days or great sales reps that have been displaced by Big Pharma companies because of Mass layoffs or who have been in contract for many years and don't want to deal with the big pharma bullshit. It is the wave of the future and Lilly Sales reps should embrace any contract rep that they come in contact with because we might just save your jobs by moving market with the unbelievable relationships that he have with many doctors. Selling in Pharma this days is not about how good your product is anymore but what kind of personal relationship you have with your doctors. Embrace the Contract Reps Lilly folks because we are here to stay.

True. In fact, on this very board I have spotted very sincere dialogue regarding the possible use of contractors as managers, and even executives. Why not let us take the wheel, and they could all go on "Good Will" trips to other countries, in which case their million-dollar salaries are all tax deductible.

A quick way to tell if your manager is lying to you is if their mouth is moving.

My experience with contract sales force is that they really aren't of the same standard as other reps. Yeah most of them have been cut by other pharma companies- but they are unable to get jobs at other companies- the best people are snatched up leaving the "rest". Contract sales are "the rest". They just aren't that high of quality. And as for relationships- most of them don't bring much to the table relationship wise. I'm in the Midwest so maybe its different in other areas of the country- just what I see here.

Sorry but if you're a rep and don't think you need a manager/coach, you're pretty arrogant. Look around you, find someone who is considered one of the best at what they do, and you will find....even THEY have a coach.
