National Sales Meeting

Newbie, here.

With the NSM coming up, I just wanted to know what to expect with the tone and culture.

There are some pretty interesting stories, you never know if they're exaggerated.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the meeting and meeting other people from the company in different areas.

Thanks for the help.

RUN from this company. If you have another job, hold out for a better offer. This company is not what it used to be and there's plenty of better opportunities out there. You're obviously qualified to get something else.

This is a bad company and it's national meetings are terrible only company I worked for that makes you bunk with someone else. Are we in college?

This is ridiculous. Just because you're unhappy and hate your job doesn't mean everyone else does. Can't a person be excited to work at Covidien and excited to go to their first NSM?

It's a great experience and you get a chance to interact with the people you trained with and others throughout the company. At least we're still having meetings like this. Other companies are cutting them out all together.

Don't get your hopes up. It's not really a sales meeting, i'd call it more of a training meeting loaded with a ton of product meetings and role plays. Who knows, if your good you may get a water bottle with your name on it. LOL!

My company does the same crap. Sales reps share rooms and management gets their own. Leads to interesting stories each year. Last year one guy got so shit faced he got up in the middle of the night and pissed in the closet all over his roommies clothes!

Whoa, wait a minute. Are you telling me that you actually don't get your own room? Like you have to share with someone. If I understand you right, i think what you're saying is that you, in fact, are not the only person in your room....that you actually have someone else in there to share and cut costs? Is that right? Are you really having to share a room with someone else....as in not you as the only one in the room?

I can't believe it. From what I've read on this forum (which is obviously all true and nobody lies), is that Cov and JJ gives everyone their own suites, with fat expense accounts for these meetings.

Have another drink.

Stop acting like this is something new. Sharing rooms at the NSM isn't a big deal. At least you had your own rooms in training. We had to share and go through 4 weeks and still it wasn't that big a deal.

Find something legit to complain about.

are back orders legit enough?

In my opinion the NSM was a healthy change of subject.

I actually like the NSM and being able to meet and hang with other folks from diff parts of the company.

p.s. did you have to walk to training in the snow? did it happen to be uphill both ways?

I don't mind sharing rooms. You are rarely in your room except to change and sleep. The national sales meeting spares no expense when it comes to the actual meetings which is where you will spend most of your time. The video DJ was a great idea and he rocked last years meeting. The stage and lighting looks like a Bon Jovi concert. Last the hotels are always very nice as is the JW that we are staying at this year. You will enjoy it as long as you interact with everyone. At the end of the meeting, you are sure to have some new friends.

What division are you with?

The Energy NSM was great last year. Video VJ, Cool "Cold/Ice" Bar, spared no expense, etc.

The EMID NSM was a disaster. And we get to go back to Orlando and role play AGAIN this year? Because it was such a success last year?!? You wasted an entire day of training and recognition. It was a de-motivator for the field.

The reason sales are slumping this year isn't because EMID doesn't know how to sell. It's because National Accounts can't get their foot in the door and people in CT and Shared Services think that communicating with the field is below them.
