Merck Excellence?

Reading all the posts here remind me only those who have been around for 30 years plus or minus truly have experienced the rise and fall of Merck. Everyone else are pretending to know what they are talking about. A year ago I had to bite my tongue and kept quiet as my Ken colleague talked as if he has been around and knew everything about the history of Merck.

Let's give props to the old farts. They're probably the only ones who know how bad things truly are at Merck now.

Well, five years or so ago they started to call a Merck rep "veteran" if they are still with us for 2-3 years.

Old Fart here is sitting on a mightly pile of 401K and pension while wondering what has happened to us.

Please call me Old Fart a few more times while I look at my statements. You can use more derogatory terms. Be mindful I fought, with other tenured colleagues, many formulary battles, built relationships, gave Merck a decent reputation locally, put more fires out, left home at 6 am or earlier to stand at many hospital displays and conventions by 7 am, came home way too many times after dinner programs and kids were already in bed to be called an old fart.

How about "old farts" as a starter??? Can run circles around you still, "sunny boy"...

"Sunny Boy" thought he walked into an office the first day and it was his personal charm, clothing, skills, look or whatever that brought a smile to the face of the staff. He is either clueless or not willing to accept the fact that old farts before him have laid the foundation for him. "Sunny Boy" is a talker. "Old Farts" including myself are doers.

I had a female boss just like that. Thank you for sharing, I thought I was the most unfortunate person in the whole wide world because I worked so hard for her while she despised and hated me all along. It was a hell hole. Luckily, she ran afoul of a new young boss she had to report to and then left, much to my relief. My view of female boss has changed ever since. I wouldn't settle for one if there is any other viable alternatives. I will be forever on my guard with any female managers. The glass ceiling for female managers? They probably heap it on themselves.

Oh man, grow up. Most unfortunate person in the whole wide world? Try being 50+, with kids hoping to go to college, in dried up construction industry, no severence, facing eviction again. We're lucky. No one has us tied to a leash. Back to the topic. Per pp, definitely not the Sunny Boys. I vote for defense litigation. Process. Compliance. Regulatory sometimes.

I don't think you can stereotype all the female bosses. I had a great one that championed me. I have seen some that were hell to their reps. Later on I had one that was probably too soft and an incompetent self-glorified rep would take advantage of her inability to say "no" to his posturing. I probably have male managers that fit into all these examples over the years too.
